The regular season is done (and so are the Mets & Yanks), so it is officially "Hot Stove" season in New York. This is our daily open thread to discuss the many possibilities in the Mets' first off-season headed by a President Of Baseball Operations (POBO). There are many intriguing story lines and rumors already spinning around in the media, so this is your opportunity to weigh in with your thoughts.
Today's topic: Last December, Brandon Nimmo signed a contract for 8 years/$162M that will keep him through the 2030 season. Should the Mets build their future outfield around him?
Well...
ReplyDeleteHe will.be around but I don't consider him an anchor piece
Maybe one of the prospects but I would.love the Mets to sign a new face here
I have always enjoyed having Nimmo on the team. He brings an enthusiasm to the field, he is constantly improving his game, and he can play the game better than most center fielders in the NL. That said, I can see him getting displaced into a corner position if one of the prospects like a Drew Gilbert becomes a can't miss call-up. Nimmo can contribute from anywhere in the outfield and would deepen the lineup if another talent came up.
ReplyDeleteI think Nimmo is a pro to build around. That said, I'd rather have Bryce Harper or Soto, but Nimmo is way up there.
ReplyDeleteHe can slide over to a corner when Gilbert arrives, which I think could be by mid-season. Great arm and good speed. Eventually, I could see the "outfield leader" mantle fall to him.
I think Gilbert will be a great addition to this team but like many prospects that have disappointed me before I have to see it first
ReplyDeleteWilliams too but I see him on second
Acuña is the wild card
Gilbert,Williams,Acuna,Parada, The Baby Mets Part II. Let’s not put the cart before the donkeys. All Stars?,may be. But our Baby Mets this year weren’t very good.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. They all showed signs of improvement as thee he at went on and that’s what you have to go by. After this year, things should be clearer. No need to dump them too quickly; the Mets are notorious for that. They cut or trade players right before their breakouts.
Deleteas the year went on…. This fking phone….
DeleteA very interesting exercise would be to take the new top 7 prospect hitters…Williams, Gilbert, Acuna, Parada, Ronny, Baty, Mauricio…and rank them best to least best at the end of 2025.
ReplyDeleteI think all will range from All Star caliber to average major leaguer for his position.
Great if it played out that way. Infield log jam with Gilbert only true outfielder. looks good in center and right.Concerns with baty in the field.. Worked so hard but still seems to have the yips..has played some left field in minors with 3 assists. Maybe outfield will get him to relax a little at the plate too? Williams played c.f. For 20 something games with 2 assist s . Give him time out there in aa next season.Rony would seem to be ideal rf. Speed and great arm but he was surprisingly terrible in sss. Zero tracking and instincts. Like him at second and third. Acuna? Will they trade any top prospects for soto? Or wait following year and spend fa money.Very interesting 2 years coming up
ReplyDeleteBaty,Vientos and even. Mauricio haven’t shown to much
