The regular season is done (and so are the Mets & Yanks), so it is officially "Hot Stove" season in New York. This is our daily open thread to discuss the many possibilities in the Mets' first off-season headed by a President Of Baseball Operations (POBO). There are many intriguing story lines and rumors already spinning around in the media, so this is your opportunity to weigh in with your thoughts.
Today's topic: The game has evolved with new rules on pitching and throws to first. In 2023 the Mets were the most efficient base stealing team in MLB (9% caught stealing rate). However, they were only tied for 13th in the league for total stolen bases (118). Should they pursue more speed in the off-season?
Jett and Acuna will add base stealing when they arrive. The two combined for 102 steals in 119 attempts, in an average of 121 games played by each.
ReplyDeleteWhy couldn’t they steal 100 combined bases in 2025 for the Mets?
Speed and SBs are now very important. As a result it will be in greater demand and thus more costly. The Dbacks have taken advantage of those new rules.
ReplyDeleteYou don’t steal first base!
ReplyDeleteTom is correct here
ReplyDeleteBoth those guys will give a whole new dynamic for speed and OBP
Perfect one two combo at the top of the lineup
I would say more of perfect 9th / lead off candidates
DeleteI want power starting at 2nd place hotter a la Lindor
Eddie
We should have a healthy Marte back next year, and hopefully Mauricio will earn more playing time. Both of those will result in many more SBs.
ReplyDeleteBut HRs still trump sped and SBs. Need at least one more bopper.
ReplyDeleteEddie, a line up like the Braves would work.
