The regular season is done (and so are the Mets & Yanks), so it is officially "Hot Stove" season in New York. This is our daily open thread to discuss the many possibilities in the Mets' first off-season headed by a President Of Baseball Operations (POBO). There are many intriguing story lines and rumors already spinning around in the media, so this is your opportunity to weigh in with your thoughts.
Today's topic: With Stearns in and Showalter/Eppler out, the Mets need a new manager. Craig Counsell is the odds on favorite because of his connection with David Stearns in Milwaukee, but if it is not him, then who?
Beltran, perhaps,
ReplyDeleteReese undoubtedly is pining for Terry Collins.
My only issue with Counsell is that his was born in Wisconsin and much of his major league experience, including all his managerial life has been in Milwaukee.
ReplyDeleteNew York is a different animal. Will he be able to handle the bright lights? Will he want to?
I don't have a top choice yet.
Joe Madded is reportedly looking for a job. And we have internal options in Chavez, Cora and Beltran, who already know our players and their skill levels, which an "outsider" would have to learn.
ReplyDeleteBench coaches from winning organizations who have a decade of experience are not going to be as green as would Beltran or Chavez.
ReplyDeleteTom, we're not the only ones rooting for Beltran...

Ron Washington perhaps but to me Buck should have stayed another year way to quick to pull the trigger when DS has so much to do why add another hurdle?
