Four more players were added to the parent spring roster on Friday to fill in the gaps left open when prospects were reassigned th specific affiliate teams:
Another, catcher Matt O’Neill, joined them yesterday.
The four are:
C Vincent Perozo
RHP Jeffrey Colon
SS Jesus Baez
RHP Diosmersky Tavares
The 24-yr old 6-5 RHRP Tavares was signed to a minor league contract by the Mets on 11-6-20-23. He had been released by Houston in October.
Last year, combined A+/AA, he went 3-3, 4.56, with 58-K in 56-IP.
You think his first name is a handful? Well, his middle name is Merquiades.
I count 50 pitchers at the MLB-AAA level,
ReplyDeleteand another 31 at the BNG-BKL level.
That's 81 pitchers at the 4 full season Mets teams
A slew of them will have to go.
Nickel, that is wild. Maybe some get bumped down to FCL.
ReplyDeleteThere was a year where a ton of minors pitchers were let go. Their combined records in the minors were very decent. I did an article on it. Maybe 8-9 years ago.
ReplyDeleteTough business if you’re not at or near triple digits.
I see 25 more pitchers at FCL already and certainly
ReplyDeletenone of the 50 at the MLB-AAA level would be demoted that far.
We all knew Stearns signed a lot of minor league free agent pitchers
this off-season. Now, lets hope his evaluators pick the best ones to keep.
It's actually a nice problem to have...a wide selection that they have been
able to evaluate all spring.
Guys
ReplyDeleteYou don't understand
They just were added to play in ST games. Nothing more and not held against them.
None will go to Queens
What I don’t understand, is why they needed to come off the spring training roster in order to playin this “showcase”?
ReplyDeleteA lot of those guys will end up at SYR this summer, but not 35 of them. I also believe a lot of guys will end up in that mysterious, nebulous place called Extended Spring Training.
