Tom Brennan: McNeil Update

JEFF MCNEIL FILM CLIPS LAST NIGHT

(Source: AFL website)

Jeff McNeil started not his spring training, but an abbreviated Fall Training, last night.

He played 2nd base last night for Scottsdale, and went 1 for 4 and a walk. One more successful AFL game today, and he will rejoin the Mets Sunday for the NLCS series against the Dodgers.

Playing CF was Jett Williams, who was 2-2 with 2 walks. One hit was his 2nd triple in two games. Jacob Reimer was 0-1 with 3 walks. Drew Gilbert DNP.

  1. A lot of people are saying they should drop a pitcher and keep Acuña's speed for pinch running

    We'll see soon

  2. Well, the staff is well rested for the first time in recent memory, and there are built in days off. Interesting debate, as the best-of-seven looms.

  3. Tom,
Jett Williams displayed excellent speed around the bases on that triple. That is an element we have not had on the bases in several years. If he can stay on track, we have a future star.

  4. I like Acuna for the playoff roster. His pinch running /back-up infield skills could be invaluable in a close game.

  5. I don’t drop a pitcher for a pinch runner. Pitchers can run too, runners can’t pitch.

  6. Gus, my tendency is to lean towards your perspective, but I have not given it a lot of thought. I could picture Acuna coming in after a single by JD Martinez and scoring the go-ahead run on a close play at the plate on a double.

  7. Back-to-back shutouts against a potent SD offense by LAD is concerning.

  8. Senga tabbed for game 1; expect 45-50 pitches. Manaea for game 2.

If all goes right, Senga could have one more NCLS outing, figure up to 65 pitches, then in the World Series, 80 pitches?

  9. Before tonight’ AFL game on Oct 28, Gilbert, Williams, and Reimer are 20 for 98. The rest of the Scottsdale team is hitting about .300. And Scottsdale is scoring by far the fewest runs per game.
