Remember
when Steve Cohen bought the Mets and he was
compared to Bobby Axelrod, the character on the successful cable show,
“Billions”?
Billions
was about Axelrod, a highly successful billionaire hedge fund owner that was
extremely loyal to both his family and his employees. Sound familiar?
Oh… and
he never loses.
The
closest day Cohen came from being thrown under the bus was during that Trevor
Bauer fiasco that I too fell for. Yes, he gave a “handshake deal” to Cohen and,
yes, insiders told me that certain Mets brass were ordering Bauer bobble dolls,
but the scumbag eventually reneged on the deal, causing Cohen to lose his cool
on X and look like the guy that once played a villain from the planet Krypton who was screwed by Gordon Gekko. He vowed that day not to trust baseball.
We all
know what today’s subject would be. Ironically, as I write this, the Mets are
still below the luxury tax penalty threshold. To me, there is more to be done here… sign a
top starter… renew Pete for life… try to shed some salary… but, as of this
morning, the Mets have become the team current and future free agents are going
to want to play for.
Especially
Latin players, like Vlad Guerrero. Maybe a year too early, but I expect him to
be next year’s OMG sign.
As for
me, I want to personally thank Steve Cohen for making the team I have either
rooted for or wrote about since 1962, into the team I always dreamed of it
becoming someday… the toast of New York City. I no longer have to consider myself
a second citizen to Yankee fans or writers.
This is
my team now. My city.
I agree Mack thank you Steve Cohen for removing the little brother moniker... But i hope we don't sign Alonso and definitely not for life...
ReplyDeleteSoto is Premier player... Alonso was someone who before his Milwaukee HR was hated...
Home grown is not a reason to sign someone and not for premium. He can go...
Plan B
Delete2025 - Vientos on 1B
2026 - Vlad
Sounds good, Mack. But if Vientos continues to improve, and one of our kids takes over 3B successfully, there may not be a need to spend the big bucks on Vlad.

DeleteWell said, Mack! Cheers to Mr. Cohen!
ReplyDeleteWe spent 63 years being 2nd fiddle to the Evil Empire but no more THANK YOU STEVE!
ReplyDeleteAs recently as Sunday evening (my time) I was projecting Soto to return to the Bronx. I've never been so happy to be completely wrong.
