The Back-Flip Game - despite the Mets jumping out to a 7-0 lead after with 4 i the 1st and 3 in the 2nd, all anyone will remember from this game is the amazing play that Bartolo Colon made in the 6th.
National Pastime.com: Mets right-hander Bartolo Colon, extending his streak to 22 consecutive scoreless innings, shuts out Miami, 7-0. The 42-year-old Dominican hurler’s performance will be best remembered for his behind-the-back flip, throwing out Justin Bour in the sixth inning of the Marlins Park contest.
NY Post: "D’Arnaud’s three-run blast in the first inning got the Mets started and Wilmer Flores homered on Brad Hand’s next pitch to give the Mets a 4-0 lead. Juan Lagares hit a two-run homer in the second before d’Arnaud delivered an RBI single that put the Mets ahead 7-0. From that point it was easy work for Colon."
Bartolo's Complete Game Shutout was part of his team leading 194.2 innings pitched in 2015. Bartolo's 42 year old season sometimes gets overlooked with the talented young pitching the Mets had assembled that year.
Nationals beat the Braves 8-2 to stay 5 games back of the Mets.

Colon was my favorite pitcher when he debuted for the Indians, the stuff was at another level despite only being 19 or 20.
ReplyDeleteHe had a long career. Before he retired and while he was looking for a team after his time in Texas, I met him at an autograph event. I asked him if he would pitch for Syracuse. It would have been great for the upstate fan but he was not interested.
