MACK - METS POSITION ANALYSIS - RP (2 OF 2)

Prospect Analysis By Position – RP

Here are those other seven relievers, two of which are rookie BLUE prospects:

Nate Lavendar – The Rays returned Lavender to the Mets on 11-12-2025, after drafting him in the last Rule 5 and then placing him, and clearing waivers. He is not on the 40 anymore and can become depth at AAA-Syracuse. Had internal brace surgery in May 2024 and followed that with a setback. He never pitched a lick since. Turns 26 in January. LHP. Last stats were 2024 for AAA-Syracuse: 5-G, 1-ST, 3.86, 1.86, 7-IP, 9-K, 7-BB. Good depth piece still young enough to someday compete at the major league level. Bet he’s in the lab already.

Dedniel Nunez – turns 30 in June. FA 2030. MLB Career: 0.8-WAR, 2-0, 2.82. Did not pitch well in 2024 and eventually was shut down for a right flexor injury. He tried to pitch last season but went under the knife for TJS in July. I don’t see him pitching at all in 2026. Sad. He was going to be a major piece going forward in the Mets pen.

Ben Simon  was a 13th rounder in 2023. That’s about right for a relief pitcher. Will turn 24 in March. Err… 5-11, RHP. Pitched 2025 for both A+ Brooklyn and AA-Binghamton: 38-APPS, 5-1, 2.98, 1.14, 54.1-IP, 18-BB, 60-K. Like Brewer, chalk one up for the labs. He will return to AA ball come spring.

Osiris Calvo – a new name, and far too early to analyze, but you may want to put this name on a stick-em page and put it on your ice box. Turns 22 in May. 6-4 lefty. Played 2023 for the DSL-O… out for the season in 2024 with nan “undesignated injury”… returned there last season: 11=G, 9-ST, 5-1, 2.51, 0.98, 43-IP, 45-K, ONLY 9-BB. Stats are warped by age at this level. Needs to move. Fast. Like St. Lucie rotation.

Anderson Severino - signed on Thanksgiving week. LHRP. My guess is he will live in the lab during the pre-season and then be sent to AAA-Syracuse for grooming to hopefully someday fill the vacant Brooks Raley slot in the Mets pen. Outsider at best.

Robert Stock  -  Also signed on Thanksgiving week. Talk about outsiders... unsuccessfully played for the Mets in 2021. Not doing much better now. Why is this fossel back? Pictures?

Nick Burdi  -  signed in late November. Once one time blue chip prospect. Now purely a reclamation project which, sort of, fits the whole Lab thing, right? Gotta have a few pet projects each year. This is the lead dog in 2026.

Simon is the potential star here.

Severing and Lavender could be steals

Lavender - I wonder why Tampa cut him loose? Worth a shot. The Mets need a million pitchers a year anyway, give or take a few.

By rule, a team drafting a Rule 5 player must have him active ALL year, or at least half the year if he was hurt. This wasn’t the case with Lavender and since his setback, he couldn’t become healthy enough to pitch, he had to be offered baxk to thw Mets for half the money the Rays gave. At $50K, yiu take him back.
