MACK - POSITION ANALYSIS - RP (#1 OF 2)

Prospect Analysis By Position – RP

So far, we have 12 committed relievers in the chain. The rest will report to Florida early next year, in hopes of becoming a member of the opening day roster on the four top minor league teams. What's left will sleep homeless outside of Duffy’s and train at Clover until short schedule teams are named. Or something like that. Frankly, I don’t know where the hell they go at that point. The real point is eventually they will be back in camp, hoping to be named to the FCL squad. If not, they will either be sent back to the DR, or go on some phantom IL list with hoof-in-mouth disease, or whopping cough, or… well, you get the picture.

Here's the first six, lead off with three RED star, prime meat guys that will head up the opening day AAA-Syracuse roster:

Dylan Ross – my particular favorite. Has a fastball that was clocked at 102. Every time I say that Brennan yells out a Whoop. Ross will open up 2026 as the Syracuse closer, waiting for the phone to ring in the manager’s office. Or, the manager’s cellphone. I’m not sure there even is a hard line there anymore. Anyway. It’s not a question of IF you will see Ross in Queens next season, just WHEN.

Ryan Lambert – Lambert is lagging behind Ross, but only time wise. He should cut his bones at Cuse’ for the entire season, but who knows what with the history of Mets injures with relief pitchers. I hope they leave him alone and only consider him as a late, playoff addition (did I say playoffs?).

Saul Garcia – a recent addition to the 40, I expect Garcia to mirror Lambert and be a mainstay at Syracuse in 2026, the difference being they should not a promotion at any time in 2026 to Queens. 2027 is the year of Garcia.

Joe Jacques – a recefrnt AAAA sign who, I believe, has an invite to ST camp, but doesn’t stand a chance of making the parent club, this season or, frankly IMO, ever. Strange signing.

Felipe de la Cruz – this is his natural level he would be rising to this spring, though he really hasn’t put up impressive results in a long time. The only reason he might still be around is he’s a lefty. Could be being developed as the AAAA-LHRP.

The Mets have signed LHRP Anderson Severino to a minor league deal. Just turned 31    5-10    190    DR   IFA – signed by NYY (2013) – known for hi-velocity fastballMLB Career:  -0.1-WAR,  0-0,  6.14... 2025:  Monclova (MEX) & Licey (DOWL) – 53-appearances, 3-1, 2.32, 1.21, 42.2-IP, 52-K, 21-BB...  there always seems to be a Yankee connection with this team. I wonder why. Severino was know as a Yankee prospect with a 100+ fastball. I have no idea what that ticks up to now. Slot him into AAA-Syracuse until ST is over.

I see Ross AND Lambert getting beaucoups time on the Mets mound this year.

Saul? We’ll see if he slips a bit in AAA, where much better and more power laden hitters abound.

This guy won’t be, though:

(NYP) Lenny Dykstra could be facing more legal issues. Dykstra, a member of the Mets’ 1986 World Series team, was allegedly in possession of drugs during a traffic stop just after midnight Thursday, Pennsylvania State Police records viewed by The Post show.

I look forward to seeing Nate Lavender in the spring, he should be back from surgery.

Lenny has been a train wreck since before there were trains

Good morning! Saul Garcia was not added to the 40 man (I just confirmed), that’s why he was eligible for the Rule 5 and we thought he was a goner.

As Dean notes, Lavender should be up at some point too, but he may be part of RP Analysis 2.

I feel that the Mets need multiple long men seeing the short outings of their starters. Brazoban may be one, who is the other one?
