Michael Robertson

Venice (Fla.) HS OF

Ht: 6-0 | Wt: 170 | B-T: L-R

Commit/Drafted: Florida

Age At Draft: 18.9

A speed-oriented, lefthanded hitter, Robertson is among the fastest players in the 2021 class and turned in the quickest electronic-timed 60-yard dash at East Coast Pro—6.26 seconds, a top-of-the-scale time. Scouts think of him as a 70-grade runner more than a legit 80 because his speed plays better underway than out of the box at the moment. He brings an aggressive, old-school style of play to the game and isn’t hesitant to lay down a drag bunt or create chaos on the base paths when he’s there. The overall quality of Robertson’s hit tool will determine his draft status, because currently Robertson’s swing looks better in batting practice and with a skinny, 6 feet, 170-pound frame scouts are skeptical of his power potential. He has a slappy approach at the plate and needs to add more strength to not get the bat knocked out of his hand at the next level. As a defender, there’s little doubt he can handle center field with above-average defensive ability as well as an above-average arm. Robertson is a Florida commit and has some similarities to 2020 prospect and current Vanderbilt outfielder Enrique Bradfield—who made it to campus in a five-round draft with a similar toolset.

 PG -

Michael Robertson is a 2021 OF/MIF with a 6-1 170 lb. frame from Venice, FL who attends Venice. Slender athletic build, lots of room to get stronger. Outstanding runner, 6.30 in the sixty, has impact speed on the bases. Comes through the ball well in the outfield and fields cleanly out front, long and loose arm action on his throws from an extended 3/4's slot, makes accurate throws, obviously has centerfield speed. Left handed hitter, hits from a wide base with a slightly open stance, simple timer and trigger, has loose and quick hands and a short and direct swing that is fluid through contact. High contact approach that can develop more bat speed and pop as he fills out and gets stronger. High performance player with an elite tool.

Bio:

Height: 6-1

Weight: 170 lbs

Hometown: Venice, FL

Impact bat with long term tools in CF. Potential for 60 grade power and speed tools with tons of development in front of him. Ran a 6.3 at PG National with some of the best Diamond Kinetic numbers in the class. Tons of projection left with a very high ceiling.

Mack's spin -

Robertson is not a power outfielder. He's all speed and slap hitting.

There's nothing wrong with that, but early round choices are usually dominated with pitchers that throw heat and hitters that pound.

If... and I think it is a big if at this point... he signs, I have him as a late second day pick.
