Christian Scott

Florida RHP

Ht: 6-4 | Wt: 215 | B-T: R-R

Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted

Age At Draft: 22.1

There are a number of Florida arms in the 2021 class in front of Scott, but he’s a solid prospect in his own right with a solid arm and tall, 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame. Scott has a lively arm and throws a fastball that sits in the 92-94 mph range and gets up to 96 at his best, with a slider that comes and goes and a changeup that could become a solid third pitch. Scott has a lot of effort in his delivery, with aggressive head whack through his finish, and he’s had that trait since his high school days. However, as a high schooler, Scott showed he could command his fastball at Florida. While his walk rates with the Gators are fine (3.2 walks per nine innings over his career), both scouts and coaches say his fastball command is spotty and inconsistent and he’ll need to improve in that area to get the most of his secondaries. Because of the control, some scouts think he’s more of a reliever at the next level and that’s where the majority of his innings have come in Gainesville.

112. Christian Scott - RHP

Bio:

Height: 6-4

Weight: 215 lbs

Hits/Throws: R-R

Hometown: Parkland, FL

School: Florida

Lean, lanky, athletic build that projects big gains. High waist, long levers. Very fluid, repeatable delivery comes out of a 3/4 arm slot, with impressive extension. Fastball up to 94 with potentially more to come considering build. Has shown the ability to maintain velo over several innings. Some run on the FB. Changeup is a work in progress but flashes 50 with some fade. Curveball and slider meld together too often, though they've both shown good spin rates. Scott has the arsenal and could be a first round guy if he shows the ability to spin it more consistently in 2021.

14. Christian Scott University of Florida (FL) Delray Beach Lightning RHP RS Sophomore (draft eligible 2021) 6’4/215 R/R Coconut Creek, FL Draft Status: Undrafted Video:

Christian Scott has been a major part of the Gators staff for the last two seasons seeing significant mound time. As a true freshman he threw 52 innings with a 6-3 record and 44 strikeouts. In the shortened 2020 season he threw 15 innings all in relief striking out 16 batters with a 1.20 ERA. In the summer of 2020, he struck out 15 batters in 8.1 innings. Scott has a long athletic frame with lower body strength. He has a clean balanced delivery and finishes online. His fastball sits in the 88-93 range and topped out at 95 with arm side run and life. He has a feel for his breaking ball with short tight break sitting in the 77-81 range. His changeup showed some fade and depth with finish. Scott has the potential to be a starter at the professional level and will be a major part of the Gators pitching staff during their 2021 campaign

Mack-s spin -

Right now, Scott projects out as one of the early relief pitchers picked in this draft. And he's a good one too, but let's see if he is converted to a starter this spring.

Right now... 3rd round.
