163. Luke Heefner - SS

Bio:

Height: 5-11

Weight: 180 lbs

Hits/Throws: L-R

Hometown: Cedar Hill, TX

School: Home School

Some of the better hands and mechanics at the plate in the prep class. Manipulates the barrell, makes a ton of contact. Limited mobility at shortstop may force him to 2B, but enough arm to stick on the dirt. Lacks current power but advanced bat suggests some pop may come.

Prep Baseball Report -

Heefner stood out in the showcase phase of day 1, putting on a display at the plate and putting up some top-tier numbers at SS. The 5-foot-11, 155-pounder as quick in each direction to the ball at SS, clean actions with his arm and rifled up to 91 mph across the field. Showed out with a nice round of hard BP, started with his hands high, quick to attack the ball, slight uphill plane through the zone, and showed that there is even more power to come. 88 mph exit velocity.

 PG -

Luke Heefner is a 2021 SS/2B with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Cedar Hill, TX who attends Home School. Slender young build with lots of room to fill out and get stronger. Left handed hitter, loads deep onto his back side with a hip coil at top, well timed shift forward, very fast hands get the barrel out on time consistently with some whip out front, outstanding game swings and consistently squared up quality pitching. 6.93 runner, comes through the ball well on defense, fields out front cleanly, compact arm stroke that makes accurate throws, fundamentally sound defensive player. Barrel to ball skills really stood out.

Luke Heefner - Heefner is a bat that impressed very well at the National Showcase in June. A home schooler from the state of Texas, Heefner has shown an ability to find the barrel with ease and generate a lot of loud contact with an unusual setup at the dish. While he did not start for the West squad, he did get one plate appearance, resulting in a fly out to left field against a Drew Christo fastball at 91 MPH. Heenfer does have a good arm in the middle infield and has smooth actions to boot. The Dallas Baptist commit will definitely be one to watch as we progress through this draft cycle.

Mack's spin -

Heefner looks like one of the better hitting prep shortstops in this draft.

That alone should project him in the second round.

T have him going in the 6th-9th range.
