"If I dropped acid and had a conversation with my dead grandmother who had a conversation with Oliver Perez's dead great-great-great-great-grandmother in heaven about his possible signing, I'd be more likely to believe that than anything written by Mack."

  1. No, just what I've been told by someone I trust.

I may easily be wrong, though.

  2. Once it is lost, credibility may hard to find again.

First it was Oliver Perez by this weekend, then it's this meeting which was denied when we called Boras Corp.

There's three huge Mets blogs. You know who they are. It's not a coincidence that neither of them posted your rumor. It's also not a coincidence why they've grown as huge as they have.

Pick up the phone and do the leg work yourself, or don't post something that doesn't have a legitimate source like AP, ESPN, Fox, etc.

I trust my next door neighbor to babysit my kids, but if he told me the Mets were meeting with Manny Ramirez, I wouldn't go to press with it.

Anyway, just a little advice. You seem to be a good writer in your own right, don't fall into these games all the Mets little leaguers play every weekend when they're home from school.

  3. I appreciate your advice.

It would be nice if you had a name, but whatever...

Actually, I didn't do the research here.

What I did was answer my telephone from a call from someone you would know who they were... and that person told me the original story that I said would happen by last Sunday.

It didn't, so I was wrong.

    But, that's my job.

I report what I am told by credible sources.

  4. If your sources are consistently wrong, how can you call them credible?

  5. Well, in my defense, they haven't been consistently wrong, nor have they been wrong from this particular source.

Please feel free to contact Mike McGann, over at www.flushinguniversity.com, and he will tell you that, the few times I have quoted sources, I was spot on.

However, I wasn't this time, thus I have to pay for this now.

  6. I think folks are more interested in getting the right story than breaking stories. Information gets distributed so quickly online these days that its rare that the person who posts the story first even gets credit for doing so.

There isn't much to gain, and far more to lose when trying to "break" stories these days.

  7. well...

the important thing for me is I was right and I find it amazing that the other blogs that have trashed me the past 2 days now make no mention that what I said 10 days ago came true this am, insread of Sunday, due to the Super Bowl.

Deals like this don't get offerred in one day. It was done yesterday.

I think I'll stay out of the "sources" business...

  8. Mack,

Too funny...Yesterday, I also posted about this getting done today over at NY Sports Dog, and I got PUMMELED on a lot of blogs and message boards about being full of "ie=t".

Then the deal happens today, as I had heard it would, and no one shows up to say anything by way of apology.

Anyway, keep up the good work over here....drop me an e-mail, that way if either of us gets some intel we can share.

My e-mail is at my site near the top.

    Regards,
    Dave
