Syracus 6, Buffalo 5

The Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, jumped out to an early lead Saturday, but could not hang on, losing 6-5 to the Syracuse Chiefs.

Buffalo's offense began the game on fire, with six of the first eight batters to reach on a hit. Jesus Feliciano began that string with a single to the left side. Feliciano would move to third when Andy Green doubled off the left field wall. Fernando Martinez drove the outfielder in when he grounded out. Green would touch home when Michel Abreu rocketed at single to left before being thrown out at second. That made the score 2-0 Buffalo after the first.

The runs continued to flow in the second inning. Catcher Robinson Cancel led off with a single. Jonathon Malo then knocked one of his two hits down the left field line for a double. That scored Cancel for a 3-0 lead. Argenis Reyes made it three straight hits when he singled to drive in Malo. Reyes advanced to second on the throw home.

Still with nobody out in the second inning and a 4-0 lead, pitcher Jonathon Niese executed a sacrifice bunt to move Reyes over to third base. The second baseman then scored on a sacrifice fly by Feliciano to grow the lead to 5-0.

But the Bisons couldn't hold the advantage, surrendering four runs in the fourth inning, and the deciding two runs in the sixth.
