Buffalo Spin: F-Mart to Queens

The Bisons trail Columbus, 9-1, through five innings and a season full of low moments just keeps getting worse. Starting pitcher Jonathon Niese was throwing batting practice and gave up nine runs (seven earned) in 3 2/3 innings, including six in the fourth before he was mercifully pulled. His ERA here is 8.06 and he's about to fall to 0-3 in six starts. And this is the first option the Mets have for a Triple-A starter?

The Bisons have two hits in the game and are showing no life. Meanwhile, all the ex-Bisons on the Clippers roster are playing this series like it's the playoffs. Jordan Brown, Michael Aubrey and Chris Gimenez have two hits apiece. Gimenez and Travis Hafner have homered. The Clippers moved up runners on an out six times -- six times! -- over the first four innings. Manager Torey Lovullo must be loving this.

And the news just keeps getting worse: Ryan Church left the Mets' game tonight in Boston with a hamstring pull. If it's severe enough to put him on the shelf for a few days, the Mets will probably want to take a look at top prospect Fernando Martinez. Although he's 0 for 3 tonight so far, F-Mart entered the game batting .293 and tied for the International League lead in extra-base hits with former Bison Todd Linden of Scranton.

Martinez is the only thing worth watching on this team, which is about to fall to 10-29. If he goes to New York, then what?
