The Herd:
The Buffalo Bisons’ modest four-game winning streak ended with a thud on Sunday. Charlotte rallied for two runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to hand the Herd a 3-2 loss before 2,933 fans at Knights Stadium.
The Herd, which had been 18-0 in games it took a lead into the ninth inning, looked poised to extend its season-long winning streak as Elmer Dessens took the mound in the ninth with a 2-1 lead. The Bisons’ closer had converted his last 11 save opportunities.
Instead, Charlotte’s Josh Kroeger singled and Michael Restovich walked. Dessens recovered to get the next two outs before surrendering a two-run hit down the left field line to Wilson Betemit. Bisons starter Nelson Figueroa ended up with no-decision after retiring 20 of last 21 batters he faced. He went eight innings, allowing one run on four hits and struck out eight. Box score

B-Mets:
Jorge Vazquez went a combined 5-7 with a home run and four RBI for Trenton in Sunday’s doubleheader at NYSEG Stadium as they took both games from Binghamton 9-3 and 3-0. The B-Mets set a season-high with their sixth straight loss and were shutout for the third time this season in the second game as four Thunder pitchers combined for the shutout.
Binghamton struck first in game one with two quick runs in the first inning off starter Jason Stephens, who went six innings to pick up his first win of the year. Emmanuel Garcia doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on Jose Coronado’s groundout to first. Josh Thole then plated Garcia with an RBI groundout. Lucas Duda followed up with his fourth home run of the season to make it 2-0.
Trenton immediately responded with six runs off Eric Brown in the second. Chris Malec led off with his third home run of the year to cut the lead to one. Marcos Vechionacci and Richie Robnett then singled and Reegie Corona drove in Vechionacci to tie it. Eduardo Nunez then knocked in a run with his single to give Trenton the lead. Vazquez followed by delivering the big blow of the inning with a three-run home run, his eighth of the season, to make it 6-2.
Ruben Tejada led off the third inning with a double and then scored on Coronado’s single to center to cut the lead to 6-3.

Gnats:
Jeurys Familia, RHP - 10/10/1989, Low-A, New York Mets: While Jennry Mejia is the Mets pitcher out of the Dominican who is getting most of the hype right now, Familia is another live arm who deserves being noticed. Mike Newman, who scouts the South Atlantic League, has seen Familia pitch on several occasions has been impressed by his 91-93 MPH fastball and solid breaking ball. Familia followed last year’s GCL stint with first campaign in full season ball this year, and so far has been quite impressive. Familia has gotten much better over the course of the season, improving both his strikeout and walk rate each month. He currently has a 8.6 walk rate and 18.2 strikeout rate on the season (191 TBF), but in June he is walking 6.9% while striking out 22.2% (72 TBF). It’s still quite early to determine if this improvement is for real, but it’s definitely a great sign from the 19-year-old.

Clones:
The Brooklyn Cyclones (2-0) and Staten Island Yankees (0-2) played through four rain delays and managed to get through five and a half innings before umpires called the game due to inclement weather, with the Cyclones winning the rain-shortened game, 5-2.Winning pitcher Mark Cohoon (1-0) tossed five strong innings, allowing just two runs on back-to-back solo home runs in the second inning. Brooklyn, however, plated four runs in the bottom half of the frame to retake the lead. Cohoon allowed four hits and struck out five batters.Samuel Martinez came in relief of Cohoon in the top of the sixth inning and recorded the Cyclones' first save of the season. Martinez pitched a perfect sixth inning, and struck out two Yankee batters. The Cyclones displayed a balanced offense to compliment strong pitching. John Servidio continued his hot start to the season, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and raising his average to .429. Sam Honeck went 1-for-2 with two RBI, and Nick Giarraputo went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Luis Nieves drove in a fifth run for Brooklyn. The Cyclones travel to Hudson Valley on Monday, before returning to Brooklyn on Tuesday night for one of the most highly anticipated games of the season. On June 23rd, the Brooklyn Cyclones will be transformed into the Baracklyn Cyclones, honoring the 44th President of the United States with a night of patriotic partying at the ballpark. The team will wear one-night-only "Baracklyn" jerseys, and the first 2,500 fans will receive a Baracklyn bobblehead.
