B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:
The B-Mets jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but
the Fisher Cats responded with a four-run fifth inning to take
the lead for good in New Hampshire’s 5-3 win over Binghamton
last night at NYSEG Stadium. All five of the B-Mets hits
went for extra bases including Lucas Duda’s RBI double in the
second inning to get Binghamton on the board with a 1-0
lead. Shawn Bowman added two runs to the lead in the fourth
inning with a two-run double to right field, making it 3-0. However,
starter Eric Brown allowed four straight hits in the fifth
inning, including a bases-loaded, two-run double to Brian
Dopirak, which tied the game. Then, David Cooper grounded
out to first scoring Adam Calderone from third to give the
Fisher Cats a 4-3 lead. Brown took his eighth loss of the season
after allowing four runs in six innings. Reliever Edgar
Estanga picked up the win with a season-best 3.2 innings of
scoreless relief. The Fisher Cats added a run in the ninth
inning on an RBI single from Calderone and Danny Farquhar
saved his second straight game with a scoreless ninth.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:
RHP Brad Holt will make his
third start of the season for the B-Mets tonight. Last time out,
June 27 at Akron, Holt lasted just a third on an inning and
allowed five runs on three hits including a home run to take
the loss. He is 0-1 with a 9.45 ERA in 7 innings with Binghamton.
He missed three weeks in between his first start June 5
and his last start due to a minor ankle injury. Holt is considered
the fourth-best prospect in the Mets’ organization by
Baseball America and is considered the top starting pitching
prospect among right-handers. He opened the season with St.
Lucie (High-A) and went 4-1 with a 3.05 ERA in 41.1 innings in
eight starts. Holt was the Mets’ first-round supplemental pick
in 2008, 33rd overall, out of UNC-Wilmington.

LHP Luis Perez, who leads the Eastern League with 89.2 innings
pitched, will make his 16th start of the year tonight for
New Hampshire. The durable lefty went 6.1 innings on June
26 against Portland allowing three runs on three hits while
walking a season-worst five men in a no-decision. He has not
won a start since May 24. For the year, Perez is 4-6 with a
3.41 ERA. Perez spent 2008 with the Lansing Lugnuts (Low-
A), tallying a 5-12 record in 28 appearances, 23 starts, with
an ERA of 3.60 in 137.1 innings, striking out only 137 men.
The Dominican-born lefty was singed as an international free
agent in July of 2003 by Toronto. He is a member of Toronto’s
40-man roster.

BINGHAMTON ALL-STARS!:
Yesterday, three B-Mets players
were named to the Eastern League North Division All-Star
Team. Catcher Josh Thole, outfielder D.J. Wabick and LHP Roy
Merritt
were selected to play in the July 15 game at Trenton.
