B-Mets: Game Notes

LAST GAME:

Binghamton pitching allowed a season-worst
seven home runs to the potent Erie lineup, including three to
SeaWolves catcher Alex Avila in the B-Mets 16-3 loss at Jerry
Uht Park Friday night. Avila hit three-run shots in the first and
second innings off B-Mets starter Eric Brown, who allowed
nine runs in two innings to lose his eighth straight start. Down
15-0 entering the seventh inning, Binghamton struck for its
only three runs off SeaWolves starter Thad Weber. Ike Davis
led off the frame with a solo homer of his own over the rightcenter
field wall. Then Caleb Stewart and D.J. Wabick reached
on a single and a double, respectively. In his first game back,
Mark Kiger followed with a single to right scoring both men.
Weber went 7.2 innings allowing three runs on seven hits with
a season-best seven strikeouts to pick up his second straight
win over the B-Mets. Wabick recorded the only two-hit day for
Binghamton with a 2-4 showing, including two doubles.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Jake Ruckle will get the
call for Binghamton tonight for his fourth start. He picked up a
win in his last go around with five innings versus Connecticut
July 20 in which he allowed five runs on four hits. Ruckle is 1-
1 with a 4.64 ERA in 21.1 innings with the B-Mets. Prior to
joining the B-Mets this year, he made two relief stints with St.
Lucie (High-A) allowing three runs in five innings. Last season,
he made six starts for Binghamton with a 7.36 ERA in 29.1
innings before missing the remainder of the year with right
shoulder surgery. He was drafted in the 41st round of the
2004 draft out of Chandler-Gilbert JC.

RHP Luis Marte is due to make his 17th start of the year tonight
for the SeaWolves. He went just 3.2 innings allowing two
hits in his last start July 20. Marte was held to a low pitch
count due to missing his prior start due to right shoulder stiffness.
He is 5-8 with a 3.92 ERA in 98.2 innings this year and
is tied for the league-lead with 16 homers allowed with teammate
Jonah Nickerson. He was named a Florida State League
Mid-Season All-Star last season for Lakeland (High-A) where
he made seven starts with a 1.98 ERA in 41 innings. After
missing two months due to a right elbow strain, he reported to
Erie where he finished the season with a 4-4 mark and a 5.05
ERA in 10 starts spanning 57 innings. He was signed by the
Tigers in November 2006.

CORONADO HITTING STRIDE:

B-Mets second baseman Jose
Coronado is in the midst of a season-best ten-game hitting
streak in which he is hitting .316 (12-38). He has raised his
average from .242 July 11 to .255 entering play today. Coronado
began the season with Buffalo (AAA) where he struggled
with a .141 batting average in 29 games as the starting shortstop
while Argenis Reyes was out with injury.
