Binghamton: Game Notes

LAST GAME:

Searching for their first series win since May 14-
17 versus Trenton, the B-Mets fell short with a 5-1 loss
against Erie Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. The win
gave the SeaWolves a split in the four-game set. Erie starter
Thad Weber tossed the first 6.2 innings without allowing a hit
and ended the day after eight innings of one-run ball to pick
up his third win. Ike Davis broke up the no-no with a two-out
single up the middle in the seventh inning. Binghamton
scored its only run of the game in the eighth inning on an RBI
single from Jose Coronado. Starter Eric Brown lost his seventh
straight start after allowing five runs in six-plus innings on nine
hits. Casper Wells starred for the SeaWolves with a 2-3 day at
the plate including a double and three RBIs. Lucas Duda extended
his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the
seventh inning following Davis’ hit. Ruben Tejada roped the
only extra-base hit, a double in the eighth inning, after which
he scored.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Jake Ruckle will make
his third start for Binghamton tonight. Ruckle went 4.2 innings
allowing two unearned runs in his last start July 12 at New
Britain on four hits in a no-decision. For the year, he is 0-1
with a 3.31 ERA in 16.1 innings. Prior to joining the B-Mets
this year, he made two relief stints with St. Lucie (High-A)
allowing three runs in five innings. Last season, he made six
starts for Binghamton with a 7.36 ERA in 29.1 innings before
missing the remainder of the year with right shoulder surgery.
He was drafted in the 41st round of the 2004 draft out of
Chandler-Gilbert JC.

RHP Garrett Broshuis is slated to make his third start of the
year with Connecticut this evening. He has been spectacular
in his first two starts going 6.2 innings scoreless at New Britain
for a win July 7 and lasting 6.1 frames versus Trenton July
13 while allowing two runs on five hits. He picked up wins in
both outings and carries a 1.38 ERA entering tonight’s game.
He started off the season in San Jose’s (High-A) bullpen before
moving back into the rotation May 15. He was 6-1 with a
2.15 ERA in 58.2 innings in the California League, winning his
final four starts before a promotion to Fresno (AAA), where he
made one start before joining the Defenders. This is Broshuis’
fourth straight year in Connecticut’s rotation. Last year, he
was 13-9 with a 3.78 ERA in 157 innings. He was drafted by
San Francisco in 5th round of the 2004 draft out of Missouri.

GARCIA GRABS SPOTLIGHT AT HOME:

B-Mets centerfielder
Emmanuel Garcia has been an on-base machine at home for
the last two months. He has reached base in 22 straight
games at home dating back to May 25. During his stretch run,
Garcia is batting .337 (30-89) at NYSEG Stadium.
