Blue Claws shut out Gnats in opener, 4-0


The Lakewood Blue Claws, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, came to Savannah last night for the first time this year to open a four game series with the Sand Gnats. This was the most miles traveled this year for a game for the New Jersey based team. The Blue Claws struggled during their recent home stand, winning 3 games and losing 6 games.
The starting pitcher for Lakewood, Matt Way, a 5th round draft pick in 2009, pitched 7 strong innings. The southpaw struck out11 Gnats, gave up 3 hits, no walks, and allowed no runs.
Gnats starting pitcher, Eric Beaulac, struggled in the first inning with his control, walking 2, allowed 2 hits, and 2 runs scored. He pitched 4 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2BB, 3SO, and 3 runs(1 run was earned).
The Sand Gnats had 4 hits for the game, a single by Wilmer Flores, a double by Eric Campbell, and Jean Luc Blaquiere went 2for3 with two singles.
Centerfielder Sean Ratliff made two good catches, one he caught in short center field and the other one he ran to the warning track in center and caught the ball near the wall.
Their were 2,237 fans at the game for Bark in the Park night.
