OF Matt Holliday: - Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com has a fascinating piece up discussing how various baseball executives view the emerging free agent and trade market. Among those polled: Of 20 executives, 11 would want Matt Holliday, nine Jason Bay if money or length of deal were not an issue. Despite Holliday being younger, better defensively and having a better career OPS, Bay's success in the pressure cooker of Boston swayed a large number of executives. - http://www.mlbtraderumors.com
SP Roy Halladay: - Jon Heyman of SI.com tweeted that the "Mets will look into Roy Halladay, Adrian Gonzalez. Execs believe Roy will go somewhere."

Among those polled: For John Lackey's destination, eight believe it will be the Yankees, four the Mets, three the Angels, and the Dodgers, Astros, Orioles and Brewers getting one vote apiece. 1B – Lyle Overbay: - A very interesting idea is being reported by Ken Rosenthal: a three-way deal, with Milton Bradley going to the Blue Jays, Luis Castillo to the Cubs, and Lyle Overbay to the Mets. Rosenthal said "The teams indeed have discussed the framework of such a deal, though not in direct fashion, according to major-league sources." -
9:01pm: The Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan is reporting that Toronto "wants no part of Milton Bradley." Meanwhile, Cubs GM Jim Hendry said that Chicago hasn't given up on Bradley, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. Of course, Hendry has to say that until the moment Bradley is traded.

After world championship No. 27, if you hadn't heard, the Yankees are once again a paragon to which the Mets aspire. And there are aspects of the 2009 Yankees team that the Mets must emulate if they are to reach the top of the baseball world. But just as critically, they must avoid the mistakes that lead to a baseball team getting locked out of the kitchen during dinner. The first thing about the 2009 Yankees to emulate is making certain the roster is stocked with alternative plans at every turn. The Yankees had exceptional luck with injuries, but were not completely able to avoid them. No team is. So when starting right fielder Xavier Nady went down, they had a tremendous alternative in Nick Swisher. When Damaso Marte struggled with injuries, they had Phil Coke. Chien-Ming Wang gets hurt? Up comes Phil Hughes. Only an injury to Alex Rodriguez left them without a viable alternative -- and no team can truly guard against injuries to all top players. But that Plan B is critical for all your B-level starters.

At Buffalo, (Wilson) Valdez hit .298 in 36 games before arriving in Queens. He played in 41 games for the Mets and hit .256 with a .326 OBP, looking overmatched most of the time. However, he did on occasion drive the ball into the gaps, managing two triples and three doubles. The Mets have already dropped Valdez from the 40-man roster, and it’s unclear whether he will return to the organization. Considering how thin the Mets are at shortstop at the upper levels of the system (though, you could say that for ALL positions), I would be fine with seeing Valdez re-signed to a minor league deal and assigned to AAA Buffalo. He and Anderson Hernandez would make a nice DP combo up there and who knows, one or both could continue to advance with their offensive skills. And as mentioned at the top of this post, the Mets could do worse.
Licey (11-7)
Despite being last in runs scored they are second in wins. A four game winning streak can be credited for that rise. Emilio Bonafacio is back with Licey. He saw a lot of bench time once the Marlins acquired Nick Johnson. He could be one of the beneficiaries of a Dan Uggla trade if he can show he can hit. In his first three games for Licey he went 6 for 14 all singles, but a run scored in each ball game. Licey has not lost with him in the lead off spot. Timo Perez is one of three players tied for the league leadership in homeruns with three and Timo is leading the Domincan League early in this season with 16 RBIs. Timo was smoking last week, going 13 for 23 with a double, triple and homerun with 10 runs batted in. Timo is number two in hitting at .368
