Chris Carter :
Here is a guy who actually hits for some power, even though he too appears to be a life-time minor league player. With home runs of 24 and 16 the past two years in Pawtucket for the Boston Red Sox, he always seems on the cusp of a call up. The Red Sox just never had room for him, but as we all know, the Mets might with their lack of depth. I also like his walk to strikeout ratio, which falls just short of 1:1. Another hitter looking to make it from the left side, Carter has the ability to make the team this spring with a good showing. - link
Mets Pain:
A couple of days into my New York trip, and staying with a family of Yankees fans is proving to be challenging, since their favourite greeting seems to be 'Mets suck!' Trouble is, it's hard to argue with. The New York Times yesterday reported the Mets are thinking of batting Reyes third, a move they rejected last year; that the Mets are flip-flopping on who's getting the fifth starter's job (as if it'll make a difference); and Manager Jerry Manuel and GM Omar Minaya contradicting each other on whether Daniel Murphy has more-or-less got the job of starting first baseman - link
Ollie on Short:
You want to see a couple more injuries? Have Oliver Perez make some throws from shortstop. You'll get a couple more injuries.
So the pitchers are taking grounders at shortstop. Well, I guess you can never be too prepared since that situation comes up all the time (and by all the time, I mean never). - link

-and I thought I had too much time on my hand…
Kai Gronauer:
C (Mets) - Another German prospect, it was tough to decide between Roger Bernadina and Kai. Kai has a little more potential since his defensive ability as a catcher is much more valuable than Roger’s outfield skills in a crowded Nationals outfield. He is also 23 years old to Bernadina’s 26. The big question with Kai is his ability to hit. He was the catcher for the German National team in the Olympic qualifier in Taiwan and has been playing for the national team since he was 18 years old. His first year in the minors he hit .346 in 45 at bats, but a better reflection of his offensive capabilities was his .243 average last year in 230 at bats. He does show that he can hit for some power with the six homeruns in 2009 and with his defense he might be able to overtake Josh Thole for the Mets catching job. The Mets have given Kai a spring training invite. - link
