TODAY’S GAME: This afternoon, the Bisons take on the Rochester Red Wings in the second game of a two-game set from Frontier Field (1:05 p.m.). The Herd needs a win today to earn a split of the series as the Red Wings picked up the 6-1 victory last night. Following today’s game, the Bisons will head to Pawtucket for a four-game series with the Red Sox.

vs. THE WINGS: The Bisons were just 6-10 against Rochester last season in a back-and-forth rivalry. Neither team won more than two straight in the season series last year. Since returning to the International League in 1998, the Bisons hold the 104-88 series edge, including a 50-46 mark in Rochester.

GOSH GOLLY GEE: You can’t start the year much better than RHP DILLON GEE has. The 23-year old has tossed shutout baseball over his first two starts, allowing a combined five hits and striking out 12 in 13.0 innings of work. He blanked the Yankees over six innings in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on April 11 and shut them down over seven frames last Saturday. Gee has allowed just one extra-base hit in 2010 and has limited opponents to a .119 average.

F-MART: OF FERNANDO MARTINEZ enters play tonight with a team-high eight-game hit streak. Since April 12, the 21-year old has averaged .324 (11-34) with three doubles, a home run, four runs scored and four RBI. Martinez has collected a hit in all but two games this season for Buffalo.

ROSTER MOVE: RHP JOHN LUJAN has been promoted to the Bisons from Double-A Binghamton. The 25-year old was 0-0 with a 2.89ERA and two saves in six appearances with the B-Mets. This will be Lujan’s first taste of Triple-A action, after spending each of the last two seasons with the White Sox’ Double-A club in Birmingham. Lujan has 27 saves in 225 career minor league games.

BIG SLUGGER: OF CHRIS CARTER continues to be an extra-base hit machine for Buffalo. The outfielder went 3-4 with a double and a home run last night. Carter has four doubles, two triples and two home runs this season and is now tied with INF MIKE HESSMAN for the team lead with eight extra-base hits. Carter boasts a .565 slugging percentage so far in 2010.

METS UPDATE: The Mets (6-9) lost to the Cubs, 9-3, last night from Citi Field. LHP OLIVER PEREZ pitched well for New York, allowing just three runs (two earned) in five innings of work. However, the southpaw fell to 0-2 on the season. C ROD BARAJAS hit his third home run of the season in the loss. Ahead 2-1 in the series, the Mets host the Cubs for the finale of their four-game series tonight at 7:10 p.m.
