Zach McPhee:
6-23 from: - link - Fittingly, Arizona State second baseman Zach McPhee was the last Sun Devil off the field Tuesday night. As South Carolina players gathered to congratulate each other, McPhee walked with his helmet in his hand back to the dugout. He had been stranded at second base in the top of the ninth. McPhee hadn't give up even though his team was down seven runs -- he stole second shortly after singling. Hair matted down, uniform dirty, the 5-8, 172-pound McPhee glanced over to the celebrating Gamecocks, pursed his lips and headed into the dugout. He was the Pac-10 Player of the Year, but that mattered little to him at that moment, after his team had just been eliminated from the College World Series.
Jackie Bradley Jr. :
6-22-10 from: - link - The Gamecocks have one of the top position player prospects for 2011 in Jackie Bradley Jr. A strong runner with a smooth left-handed swing, Bradley has a chance to go in the first round if he can improve on a very strong 2010 campaign in which he lead team in both batting average and on-base percentage, hitting .371/.477/.587 with more walks (38) than strikeouts (31). Bradley often gets compared to Denard Span, and while that may be an easy comp based on position and skin color, Bradley and Span actually do share similar skill sets and some mechanical similarities in their swings.
6-23-10 from: - link - But facing elimination against top-seeded Arizona State, the Gamecocks won in big and sexy fashion Tuesday afternoon. South Carolina banged out eight hits—highlighted by a three-run homer by Jackie Bradley Jr. Bradley, a sophomore center fielder, went 3-for-4 with a career-high four RBIs and is now 5-for-8 in Omaha. He is also hitting .458/.545/.806 with six homers and 26 RBIs in his current 18-game hitting streak.
6-23 from: - link - Later, in the postgame press conference, South Carolina center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. displayed a quiet, unassuming demeanor despite going 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs. Three of those ribbies came via home run that helped fuel an eight-run Gamecocks outburst in the second inning.
Daniel Bennett:
6-21-10 from: - link - 2011 MLB Draft Players to Know – Florida State - JR RHP Daniel Bennett* (3.56 FIP; 10.06 K/9; 3.18 BB/9; 34 IP) - Bennett has been counted on in many big spots as the Seminoles primary non-closer relief pitcher. His deceptive sidearm delivery, above-average fastball, and impressive junior year peripherals make him one to watch. The former Tallahassee Community College standout should get first crack at reclaiming the closer’s job he lost to Mike McGee this season in 2011.
Dillon Maples:
6-23-10 from: - link - Day 1 at TOS: - RHP Dillon Maples had a very rough outing, crossing his body, nailing the first batter of the game and only showing arm strength and bite on the cb. Velocity was 89-93 and more balls than strikes. He lasts 1 inning for Dixie.
Deshorn Lake:
6-23-10 from: - link - Day 1 at TOS: - RHP Deshorn Lake left after 1/3 of an inning with shoulder soreness, something I worry about when players go to these showcases after playing a full spring season. Part of the risk players and their families take to play as an honor in an event like this or showcasing themselves to hundreds of college coaches and professional baseball people at any event. He did show some 91's before leaving in the 2nd inning.
