LAST GAME: Binghamton erased a 1-0 deficit in the seventh innings with a five-run frame, capped with a grand slam from Brahiam Maldonado, giving the B-Mets a 5-1 victory over New
Britain Thursday night. Lefty Eric Niesen was spectacular in the start, tossing a season-best seven innings. He allowed just a run on four hits and struck out four. The lone run off Niesen came courtesy of a third-inning solo homer from Joe Benson. Mike McCardell was as good, if not better, than Binghamton’s starter up until the seventh inning, when four straight reached
against him, forcing his departure. McCardell had faced three over the minimum entering the seventh. The B-Mets tied the score on a Mike Nickeas infield single. Maldonado hit his grand slam on the first pitch he saw from new reliever Cole DeVries. It was the outfielder’s third homer of the year with Binghamton. Manuel Alvarez finished the game, striking out five men in throwing the final two innings.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Mike Antonini will take the ball for Binghamton in his 15th start. He tied a season high with seven innings of work in his last start June 20 versus
Trenton. The southpaw limited the Thunder to two runs on four hits and struck out six, but did not factor in the decision. On the year, Antonini is 4-5 with a 4.11 ERA over 81 innings. He has walked just 12 men for the lowest BB/9 IP in the Eastern League (1.33). Antonini went 7-5 with a 5.32 ERA over 25 appearances spanning 115 innings last year with Binghamton. He was the Mets’ 18th-round choice in the June 2007 draft out of Georgia College & State University.

RHP Alex White is due to make his seventh turn in Akron’s rotation tonight. He is coming off his shortest outing as an Aero, a four-inning start June 19 at Portland where he allowed six runs on eight hits over four innings. White is 2-3 with a 2.08 ERA over 34.2 innings with Akron. The hard-throwing righty opened the season in Kinston’s (High-A) rotation and went 2-3 with a 2.86 ERA over eight starts (44 IP). White was taken 15th overall in last year’s draft out of the University of

North Carolina, signing for $2.25 million. He is considered the No. 9 prospect in the Cleveland Indians farm system by Baseball America.
