Cohoon pitched his first game at the AA level on Saturday… and got the win, but it wasn’t the cake walk he has been used to at the A and rookie level. The stats were quite different: 5.2-IP, 11-H, 5-ER, 1-K, 7.94… welcome to the almost big time, Mark.

As a freshman at North Central Texas Cohoon batted .382 with 15 doubles and five triples. Cohoon also pitched 15 innings and had a 3.82 ERA. Through 39 games this season, Cohoon is batting .368 with 11 doubles and 19 RBIs. Cohoon fired a no-hitter earlier in the season while striking out 12 against Brookhaven Junior College. "We expect Mark to be another two way threat for us this summer," said Cole. "A true power pitcher from the left side, we expect Mark to give us quality innings either from the bullpen or in the rotation and also provide a solid left-handed bat in the lineup."
2008 was a fast track year for Mark. He started out with Kingsport (1-1, 5.89), splitting time as a reliever and a starter. He was sent up to Savannah, where he started seven games (2-2, 3.82).
For reasons never explained, the breaks were put on Cohoon in 2009 and he pitched the entire year for Brooklyn: 9-2, 2.15, 0.97, in 14 starts, 2-CG, 1-SH.
His combned two year professional stats are: 12-5, 3.05, 1.14.
Forecast on Jan 1, 2010: Early on, the Mets had a problem deciding whether Cohoon would be a starter or come out of the pen. Things became much easier when his ERA was well over double as a reliever. Last year, they slowed him down and he became the ace of the Brooklyn staff
Moore had his first A+ outing and faired a lot better than his buddy Cohoon… 6.0-IP, 2-ER, 6-K, 3-BB, 3.00 ERA… and the win.

Of course, if you want to make sure you make this list, it wouldn’t hurt to throw a no-hitter (August 23), even if it was only seven innings.
From local paper day after first day of draft: - After Day 1 of the Major League Baseball draft, (Brandon) Moore and Cameron Hobson still remain hopeful. Although the Crawfordsville graduates weren't drafted Thursday, they still have 44 more rounds to go. Moore just completed his senior year at Indiana Wesleyan University, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) school in Marion, Ind. He finished with a 9-3 record this year and led the Wildcats to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) championship game and runner-up finish. He ranked third in the NAIA in strikeouts per nine innings (12.21), sixth in opponents' batting average (.164) and eighth in ERA (1.64). He was also recently named a Second-Team All-American NAIA player and NCCAA Pitcher of the Year.

In 2008, Moore pitched for both Kingsport (2-0, 0.90, 1.00, in six games, two starts, 22-K in 20.0-IP) and Brooklyn (3-1, 9.00, 2.14 in 8 relief appearances).
He returned to Brooklyn for a complete season in 2009 and did good: 6-3, 2.09, 0.95, in 13 starts, 2-CG, 2-SH, 71-K, 17-BB, 82.0-IP.
Moore’s combined two-year stats are: 11-4, 2.31, 1.04.
Forecast on Jan 1, 2010: No one expected this much from Moore, so this is all bonus time. Frankly, he’s had one of the better first two years any Mets SP has had in the past ten years. I expect him to bypass Savannah and go straight to Lucy in the spring.
Camerena piggybacked with another GCL Mets pitcher on Saturday and was just about perfect: 4.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 3-K, 1-BB. The team is still trying to figure out which five pitchers will settle in to their rotation, and Marcos made a good case for being one of them.

Marcos Camerena seems to be the one standout player that will come out of the DSL/VSL system this year.
Camarena debuted with the DSL Mets in 2008, going 0-1, 3.68 in 7 relief appearances. This year, he was moved to a starter and produced stats of: 7-2. 1.74, in 14 games, 12 starts. He also had 57K, and only 10-BB in 67.1-IP.
Forecast on 1/10: As usual, not much info on this guy, but he’s 6-3, 202 and was virtually unhittable this season. Then again, how many others have I said this same thing about over the years (Nelson Portillo and Alay Soler comes to mind). I think we’ll see him in extended came come March and I’m sure he’ll pitch for one of the winter teams as well.
There is currently $43,944,000 being paid to players not currently on the 25-man. Carlos Beltran (18.5), Oliver Perez (12.0), Luis Castillo (6.0), GMJ (1.5), John Maine (3.3), Kelvim Escobar (1.25), Sean Green (975K), and Daniel Murphy (419K). Interesting is the fact that $20.5mil of the $115.75 2011 salaries already under contract are for players (Mathews, Petez, Castillo, Bobby Bonilla) no longer part of the Mets inner circle.
I asked Dickey about the Daily News article that mentioned how he was looking up stats on the Internet before his last start, hoping to find out precisely which stats he was looking up and how he used them. But he told me it wasn’t true. He said there may have been stats up on the computer when he sat down, but he wasn’t looking at them. Josh Thole appeared amused by the entire conversation, either because of Dickey’s elocution or because I had the gall/stupidity to ask a baseball player about his stats.
