7-18 from: - link - On catcher Mike Dowd (.143/.172/.143) of Franklin Pierce (N.H.): "Dowd might have the best arm strength in the league for a catcher. That's his tool, his arm strength. For a Division II kid, he's come out here and handled himself just fine. Offensively is a little different story, but we brought him in for his defense, and he's done very well.
7-22-10 from: - link - RHP, Carter Capps, Mount Olive, 6'4 215, playing for Fayetteville this summer, will be draft eligible next year, from what the press at BA stated, he bumped some 94-95 on the gun, but I haven't seen that, he started this spring 13 games for MOC and the game I was at before the tourney he was 87-89 consistently, topped out at 91, he's got pretty good tilt to the breaking ball but it's still a work in progress, his asset is he's tall and he comes down hill and throws strikes, he won't beat himself. He's got some left in his tank and will probably be one of those guys who comes on next spring after a good fall this fall. He's still 19 and will turn 20 soon. In HS at tourney he was mid to upper 80's so there is progression in his velocity and arm strength and he's learning to be very effective at developing his breaking ball.
7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team – SS Tyrone Wiggins, El Capitan (Lakeside, Calif.), Infield - Filled up the stat sheet for the Division III champions in the San Diego Section. He led the section with 47 RBI and batted .462 with 13 home runs and 48 runs scored. Named to the all-section team.
7-23-10 from: - link - USA CNT Roster Breakdown, Spring Stat Links and Trials Notes: - Sean Gilmartin RF/LF/LHP So. Florida St. Univ. - Trials Notes: Gilmartin's future is most likely on the mound, but he is listed as one of two utility players on the CNT roster and could see some time in an outfield corner or even at first base depending on what is needed during tournament play. He has some raw strength and loft and can put a charge into the ball when he barrels it, but he can get long in his load and can fall into the trap of dropping the bat into the hit zone, limiting its contact time. Quite simply, he needs to see more in-game reps to continue to grow at the plate -- there's some room for growth but he needs the at bats. Gilmartin is adequate at both the outfield corner and first, and shows some arms strength and carry out of right.
7-23 from: - link - “Kolten Wong (.330, 17 of 23 steals) is an outstanding player, probably one of outstanding hitters in the league,” said Myers. “He also runs the bases very well. He’s one of the better all-around players in the league. When we’ve had success against Orleans, we’ve kept him off the bases. Once he’s on, he’s very similar to Martinez. He’ll take second and third on two pitches.”
