TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the final game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The Bisons have won four straight games, including the first three games of this series against the IronPigs. Buffalo has a 32-21 record at Coca-Cola Field, while Lehigh Valley is 21-36 on the road. The Bisons will continue their eight-game homestand with four games against Columbus, August 5-8.
vs. IRONPIGS: The Bisons are 7-4 against the IronPigs this year. Prior to this series, the teams split four-game sets in Lehigh Valley, May 22-25, and in Buffalo, June 12-15. Dating back to 2009, the Bisons have now won eight of their last 10 games against the IronPigs at Coca-Cola Field.
The Bisons are looking to win five consecutive games for the third time this season. Buffalo also won five straight, May 19-23 and July 16-20. A victory today would also give the Bisons their first sweep of a four-game series since April 13-16, 2007 in Columbus. The club’s last four-game sweep at Coca-Cola Field was June 20-23, 2005 over Norfolk.
INF JUSTIN TURNER enters tonight’s game on a 10-game hit streak. Turner has averaged .457 (16-35) with five doubles, two home runs and eight runs scored since July 22. It’s his second 10-game hit streak of the season as he also hit in 10 straight, May 28 - June 7. Turner has climbed to 7th place on the IL hitting charts with his .303 average between Norfolk and Buffalo.
INF NICK EVANS has a hit an RBI in each of his first four games with the Bisons this season. Since his promotion from Double-A Binghamton on Friday, Evans has averaged .471 (8-17) with seven RBI. Five of Evan’s eight hits with the Herd have come with runners in scoring position.
LHP PAT MISCH (10-4) and RHP DILLON GEE (10-7) are the first Bisons’ teammates to each have 10 wins in a season since 2004 when RHP Kyle Denney (10-5) and RHP Jack Cressend (10-1) accomplished the feat. Gee now has 123 strikeouts on the year, tied with Durham’s RHP Jeremy Hellickson for the league-lead and the 3rd most in the Bisons’ Modern Era. Gee is just 14 Ks shy of the Bisons’ record (1990, RHP Vincente Palacios, 137).
