CUTNPASTE: - Jerry, Chris Donnels, K-Rod, Kevin Towers... and Orlando Tovar

Jerry:

Silva  - I have been critical of Jerry Manuel for a while. His tenure with the Mets has been a conundrum, from his first day on the job when he threatened to “go gangsta” on Jose Reyes, all the way to these final sublime days Jerry has surprised, frustrated, and angered many at various times. I thought he was the right change after Willie Randolph when hired in June of 2008, but it turned out he was a fun first date that turned into the marriage from hell. Despite my feelings on his performance, I do think Jerry Manuel is a decent man and deserves better than to be hung out to dry these final two weeks. That’s why I propose the Mets announce he is not coming back now so another embarrassing incident, like the one with Joe Torre yesterday, doesn’t happen again.

Chris Donnels:

HBT  - 3B, Loyola Marymount U. (Los Angeles, Calif.), 0.2 WAR - Donnels spent parts of eight seasons in the big leagues. He hit .233/.319/.355 (82 OPS+) in roughly 900 career plate appearances. He was sort of the Jack Hannahan of his day. Donnels' biggest claim to fame is probably that he played alongside Ichiro Suzuki in Japan for a few years. Donnels hit 45 homers on the other side of the Pacific, then returned to North America, where he hit a ridiculous .328/.440/.660 for Albuquerque in 2000 at age 34. That performance bought him a couple more years in a big-league uniform. Still, he did almost nothing for the Mets. Donnels' two-year stint in New York saw him hit .195/.299/.224 (51 OPS+).

K-Rod:

maller  - Francisco Rodriguez is expected back in Queens Criminal Court Wednesday morning for another arraignment, this time on a criminal contempt charge for allegedly violating his restraining order by sending 56 text messages to his fiancee. It is a Class A misdemeanor that carries a maximum one-year jail term. The Mets closer already is facing third-degree assault and second-degree harassment charges, which also carry a year in jail if convicted. Police say Rodriguez attacked Carlos Pena , the 53-year-old father of his fiancee, Daian Pena, at the Citi Field family room after a game on Aug. 11

Kevin Towers:

metstradamus  - And if you're waiting for Kevin Towers to ride in on his white horse and save the day as the Mets next GM, forget it. He's going to Arizona to work some sort of magic which involves trading Aaron Heilman back to the Mets for a 12-year-old batboy who will grow up to be the next Albert Pujols. I never thought it would make a difference if the Mets had axed Snoop and Omar Minaya in July or August, but now I see where the difference could be: The Snakes didn't have to worry about offending interim GM's or managers, so they could go talk to and hire whoever they want. The Mets, meanwhile, remain in the discussion phase possibly to avoid awkward situations such as people like Joe Torre discussing jobs that aren't vacant. And by the time the deed is actually done, all the good candidates will probably be gone.

Orlando Tovar:

9-20 from: - amazin  - The big righty from Venezuela made some waves as the team's pitcher of the year with a very strong mix of power stuff and strong command in 2010. Though he's not going to light up the radar guns beyond the lower 90's and his secondary stuff is expectedly raw, the eighteen year old showed a very good ability to hit his spots and despite getting lit up in his one start with St. Lucie, he's at least raised some eyebrows going into 2011.
