Q&A - P - Samuel Taveras Filpo

Mack: - We're talking this morning with another of Brooklyn's finest, relief pitcher Samuel Taveras. Hola Samuel. .

Taveras: -  Hola,  Mack .

Mack: - Samuel, you signed with the Mets in 2007 and played two years for the DSL Mets team. Tell us what it was like for when the day you found out you were going to play professional baseball? .

Taveras: -  The day I was told that I would play professional baseball was a dream come true and I thank God because I was given the opportunity to be a professional baseball player and hopefully one day make it to the Major Leagues.

Mack: - You played two years for the DSL-Mets before coming stateside. Did you find that the quality of competition increased once you played in the states? .

Taveras: - Of course that the quality of the competition increased once I came to play over to the Unites States. The players here are much better, thus,  making the competition tougher.

Mack: -  2009 was your first year with Kingsport. This was followed with a super year in 2010 in which you split time between Kingsport (2-1, 1.93) and Brooklyn (2-0, 3.86). Things really came together this year. Tell us about it.

Taveras: -  My first year was good because I have a good experience in baseball in the United States. This year came with a different mindset and thankfully I had a great season this year and will work hard to be good next year as this season .

Mack: - Well, all those short seasons should be behind you now. I expect to see you in Savannah full time in the spring. Do you have any plans to play winter ball this year? .

Taveras: - Next year, I will  work hard to be a full-time player in  Savannah., but first I have to do well in the winter leagues where I will hopefully earn that spot in Savannah.

Mack: - Well, thank you Samuel and we look forward to seeing you next season. Stay healthy and have a great summer.

Old Samuel stuff:

7-19-10 from Pete Spiewak/Mack’s Mets: - One of the bright spots of the game for Brooklyn was Samuel Taveras, who pitched another scoreless inning for Brooklyn. It was his fourth clean frame of the season after a solid stint in Kingsport, where batters hit just .204 against him.

9-20-10: - 2011 Forecast: - the 21-year old went a combination 4-1, 2.89, 18-G, 28-K, 8-BB, 28.0-IP for Kingsport and Brooklyn. The 6-2 right hander is ready for Savannah and will play this winter somewhere in the Carribean. Keep an eye on this one.
