The Mack Draft Report - Nov. 27, 2010

David Kindred: - 11-25-10 from: - http://www.tidesports.com/article/20101125/NEWS/101129792/1011?p=all&tc=pgall  - David, a senior on the University of Alabama baseball team, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in May — four years after Claire battled breast cancer — as the Crimson Tide was bashing its way through the Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament in Hoover. The Kindred family will gather around the family dining room table today to celebrate another Thanksgiving. Before the turkey and dressing is parceled out, family members will bow their heads to say grace. They will give thanks for the delicious meal awaiting them and for the gifts of love and family that make the holiday season what it is. And before one head is raised, they'll offer thanks for beating cancer. Again.

Matt Price: - 11-25-10 from: - http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2010/11/26/top-100-countdown-54-matt-price-south-carolina/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+CollegeBaseballDaily+%28College+Baseball+Daily%29&utm_content=Twitter  - We continue the countdown today at number 54 with South Carolina Redshirt Sophomore Matt Price. Price hails from Sumter, SC, where at Sumter High School he was part of the 2008 AAAA All-State Team, where he had a 7-4 record and a 0.40 ERA. Even though he hasn’t started a game for the Gamecocks, Price once pitched a 17 strikeout no-hitter at the World Bat Championships in Jupiter, Florida, in 2006. In that same year, he helped lead his Sumter High School team to a South Carolina State Championship. Matt Price played for a bit in 2009, but was granted a Medical Redshirt after fracturing his right wrist on a defensive play against the Citadel. He showed flashes of what was to come the following season when he threw 7 scoreless innings of relief against Georgia Southern on March 25th, and also in getting the win in 2.2 innings of relief against Long Beach State on March 7th.

91. MIKE MORIN, rhp, Bourne Braves (North Carolina/SO in 2011) Reliever in spring, starter on summer (1-3, 3.29, 38 IP/38 SO); best current pitch is CH, FB 86-89, will throw harder as gets stronger

92. CALEB RAMSEY, of, Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (Houston/SR in 2011) Enjoyed all-star season (.311-1-18, 22 SB) after going undrafted; mature, consistent player who runs/hits, still growing into power

93. MIKE DENNHART, rhp, Chatham Anglers (Boston College/JR in 2011) Struggled in spring, but velo jumped 2-3 mph during summer to 90-93, flashed ++ CU, went 2-3, 1.80; has strong, durable 6-1 frame

94. ADAM MORGAN, lhp, Harwich Mariners (Alabama/JR in 2011) - Made just four starts (1-0, 1.44), but kept hitters off balance with polished approach, command of three pitches (86-92 FB, SL, CH)

95. DEREK SELF, rhp, Chatham Anglers (Louisville/JR in 2011)

Lacks dominant stuff, but excels with bulldog approach, ++ idea, sinking action on 88-92 FB, hard SL; went 3-0, 2.36 (42 IP, 3 BB)

96. JOSH URBAN, rhp, Wareham Gatemen (Texas/SO in 2011) - Struggled initially (1-4, 5.26), but vastly-improved pitcher over course of summer; FB 88-92, began to locate all pitches much better

97. JACK LEATHERSICH, lhp, Orleans Firebirds (Massachusetts-Lowell/JR in 2011) -

Made name as top prospect in Valley League in 2009; solid in situational role (1.71, 21 IP/31 SO) with 93-94 FB, SL, developing CH

98. MATT CROUSE, lhp, Brewster White Caps (Mississippi/JR in 2011)

6-5 lefty touches 89 mph, creates deception in cross-body delivery, went 4-0, 2.28; can add 20 pounds, develop better feel for CH

99. KEVIN MEDRANO, 2b, Falmouth Commodores (Missouri State/JR in 2011) Hobbled by quad pull last half of season; limited ability to utilize + speed on bases, but consistently barreled up balls, hit .321-1-16

100. NICK TROPEANO, rhp, Cotuit Kettleers (Stony Brook/JR in 2011) Brilliant in Cape title game with 6-2/3 no-hit IP in relief; has dynamite CH with splitter action; FB just 89-91, but locates to both sides

John Stilson: - 11-11-10 from: - http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/  - #24 - RHP John Stilson Texas A&M 6'3 200 R/R - had a very quiet summer, but in the spring was lights out and showed promise to be talked about going in this round projection. Will show low to mid 90's fb, up to 96 on occ, hard slider and above ave control, command is good as well and makings of third pitch. Will be watched closely for progression and competitiveness next spring.

Kolten Wong:- 11-11-10 from: - http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/  - #25 - 2B-OF Kolten Wong Hawaii 5'9 185 L/R - quality hitter with good bat speed and enough power to hit 15 plus HR in pro ball, runs well, 4.2 from left and will steal bases. Solid arm strength and quick feet, range is good, can play 2B competently and with repeat and practice no doubt he'll go far in pro ball. Lots of similarities in his game compared to Ichiro without the great arm strength Ichiro has. Rainbows program will be closely watched. Held his own in Cape and was tough competing with TEAM USA in trials. Gamer!

Tyler Beede:- 11-11-10 from: - http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/  - #26 - RHP Tyler Beede Lawrence Academy HS, Auburn Mass 6'3 1/2 200 - quality righty with good arm speed and easy delivery doesn't fight himself too much, not real deceptive or overpowering just yet. Will run fb up to 93-94, most are 89-90, has life in on RHH and down in zone, cb is true will be plus pitch in time with repeat in delivery. Lots of upside. New England will be busy next spring!!
