Sandy on 2011:
We don't have a lot of money to fill out the last five or six spots on our 25-man roster," Alderson said. "I would say not a lot of flexibility, but that doesn't mean we can't be optimistic and competitive about next season. "I do think next [offseason] will present a different set of opportunities, but right now our focus is on 2011. How we're going to fill out the rest of our roster and be as good as we can be." - New York Post
Luis Castillo:
Sandy Alderson made the rounds today, explaining what the Mets plans were entering the winter meetings. While on the MLB network Alderson stated that he would be looking for depth in regards to the position players because he basically has a front line player at every position except 2B. Well if Louie thought he might get a fresh start with a new group, it sounds more like if he's even around, he's going to have to prove himself - Mets Fever
Brian Bannister:
Brian Bannister posted a 3.87 ERA in 2007, his first season with the Royals. It wasn't quite a full season's worth of work, but it wasn't five starts either. Banny pitched 165 innings that season, making 27 starts. 2007... it seems so long ago. That was the first full season of the Moore Era, and we were all evaluating the new boss for the first time. That was the magical first Gil Meche campaign, the year that Kyle Davies arrived, the year Soria arrived, the year that the bullpen was somewhat competent for the first time since 2003... say what you will about Moore, he knows pitching -

Jose Veras:
Jose Veras is another relief option. While he continued his career trend of walking too many batters and striking out a ton, he also continued a consistent ability to retire both lefty and right hitters. Lefties hit just .155 against the righty Veras last season, with righties checking in at .221. And for his career, righties have a .689 OPS, lefties just .714. The 30-year-old Veras could be the crossover reliever the Mets badly need - Capital New York
