New Bats: - http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/baseball/news?slug=uwire-20101203_new_complexion_of_college_baseball  - Beginning Jan. 1, all NCAA teams must use bats that are aluminum — like the bats they have used in the past — but are designed to knock the ball slower, at the same speeds as wooden bats. The new regulation is a response to rising offensive statistics by college baseball teams. Some say the aluminum bats are to blame for the offensive outburst and hope the new bats will level the playing field. “The teams that are going to be successful are teams that get ahead of the curve,” Beals said. “You don’t want to play 15 to 20 games and realize, ‘Oh hey, the games are going to be different.’”

Some of you are familiar with me from my posts on Minor League Ball or my website MiLB Prospects but this is a new direction for me and I am happy to be joining the SB Nation community as the new manager of MLB Bonus Baby. One of the things I have loved ever since I was a kid, has been the MLB Draft. I have never understood why more baseball fans don’t love the day the future of your team is chosen. The main reason people love sports is hope and your team purchases a new batch of hope each year. My goal in this blog is to sell you hope for your team. Even teams that don’t spend much on the draft almost always come up with a player or two that are worth knowing about, I’m looking at you Chicago White Sox. I think that is one reason so many people are following the minor leagues. Well, that and dominating their fantasy leagues. I want to help you win there as well. - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/

Cole Green - http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/  - We continue the countdown today at number 48 with senior RHP Cole Green from Texas. He is a native of Coppell Texas as he attended Coppell High School. Green picked up four letters under head coach Dan English as a pitcher and an outfielder. As a senior, he was named a preseason All-American and earned all-area designated hitter honors as he struggled with injuries. As a freshman in 2008, he appeared in 24 games (four starts) while going 3-7 with a team high three saves and an ERA of 5.28. Green struggled somewhat as opponents ended up hitting .290. He spent the summer of 2008 in the Northwoods League with the La Crosse Loggers. He appeared in 13 games for the Loggers, including seven starts while going 6-1 including one save and 56 strikeouts in 60.1 innings. He was named to the Northwoods League Post-Season All-Star Team.

Miami: - http://baseballdraftreport.com/  - I was ready to marvel at Miami’s “All Prospect Outfield” of SR OF Chris Pelaez, JR OF Nate Melendres, and SO OF Zeke DeVoss. I was even going to remark on how cool it was that every member of Miami’s “All Prospect Outfield” comes from a different graduating class. I typically love gimmicks like this because, quite honestly, I hate writing and will look for any excuse to make the experience more bearable, for me and the unlucky saps who skim through these too long paragraphs until they get to the rankings. Now I have to reassess whether or not this is even a gimmick at all. It certainly doesn’t fit either of the first two definitions, and there is very little about prospecting that I’d ever call clever. Anyway, how about that “All Prospect Outfield” the Hurricanes will be trotting out in 2011? Pelaez (what makes him stand out: OF defense) should be a late round senior sign, Melendres (OF defense, arm, speed) will be a little bit more than that, and DeVoss (crazy speed, fantastic range) could vault his way up to the top few rounds with a big spring.

12-1-10 from: - http://www.5tooltalk.com/dandydozen.html  - SP Dylan Bundy - Owasso HS (OK) 6’1”, 200, B/R Bundy has made it clear that he intends to pursue a career in baseball, but he also was a talent football player and gifted all around athlete. He works hard in the weight room to sculpt his body, and it is quick to recognize his tightly wound, compact and sturdy frame. He doesn’t have prototypical height, and there is some effort to his delivery, but nothing that is considered too serious. He is a fierce competitor that excels both as a pitcher and as a switch-hitting infielder. He plays third base for Owasso, and shows a strong arm and power bat, but his future lies on the mound. He easily pumps his fastball in the low-90s with the ability to routinely reach and surpass the mid-90s. His slider is also a plus pitch, with nasty two-plane break giving him two legitimate strikeout offerings. He also throws a good changeup and can take a little off of his breaking ball to drop in more of a true curveball. He has committed to play for Texas, and gives the Tulsa, Oklahoma area two potential top 10 overall picks along with Broken Arrow’s Archie Bradley.
