Jeurys Familia:
1-16-11 from: - minorleagueball.com – Sickle’s Sleepers - Jeurys Familia, RHP, New York Mets: 5.58 ERA with 137/74 K/BB in 121 innings in High-A. Command issues are the problem here, though strong K/IP ratio continues to point to good upside.
Terry Collins:
The 5-foot-9 Collins relishes competition and has mapped out spring training plans for his pitchers and position players. There will be tweaks like better utilizing Jose Reyes’ golden arm in cutoff and relay situations, an emphasis on hitters making more contact and not swinging for the fences, new bunt plays, base-running drills and an overall approach of playing the game with pride. There is something else that he is planning for spring training that gives you a clear indication this is not the same overly intense Collins who managed in Houston (1994-96) and Anaheim (1997-99). He is planning on having bowling nights for staff and players. That’s right, bowling. -

Chris Young:
Young has been more under the radar, the perfect cheap option for the Mets. He missed nearly all of 2010 due to injury after just one start in April and would return in September for 3 starts finishing the year 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA. He has spent most of his big league career with the San Diego Padres, a ball club not known for having a stacked lineup. When Young’s team scored 0-2 runs, he is 7-18 with a 2.61 ERA. When his team scores 3-5 runs, Young is 13-9 with a 4.42 ERA. The ability to pitch well with little run support is an excellent quality to have, especially with the Mets streaky hitting. Unlike Francis, Young would be able to keep the Mets in the game when runs are scarce. - metsmerizedonline
Raul Chavez:
Chavez, most recently of the Blue Jays, doesn't hit much, rarely walks, and will be 37 in March. He wasn't included in Beyond the Boxscore's year-end defensive ratings because he spent the year with Toronto's Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas. Mike Rogers's 2002-2009 rankings from Bless You Boys have Chavez well above average and the 2009 Fan Scouting Report ranked Chavez 8th among all big league catchers. Looks like an aging, no-hit, all-glove backup catcher. - .amazinavenue.
Johan Santana:
This story is still in progress, but we probably won’t see Santana again until July 2011. To date he is 40-25, with a 2.85 ERA. His performance down the stretch in 2008 was classic, as he dragged the Mets to the finish line. Knowing that he’s pitched like this with bone chips in his elbow, torn meniscus, and a shoulder injury makes it even more impressive. - NYBD
