Trenton 10, Binghamton 8

The Binghamton Mets committed four errors and dropped the finale of the Subway Series North to the Trenton Thunder by a 10-8 score today at NYSEG Stadium.

Trailing 4-3 in the seventh with Erik Turgeon on the mound, Trenton got a break and took full advantage of it. With two outs and runner aboard, Ryan Baker sent a liner directly at Coronado that the shortstop could not hold on to. It bounced into centerfield for his fourth error of the season. Two batters later, Corban Joseph gave Trenton the lead with a two-run single to left.

Binghamton tied it back up with a run in the seventh, but missed a big chance by leaving the bases loaded against reliever Brad Halsey.

Trenton wasted little time to retake the lead in the eighth. Cody Johnson led off with a triple and scored the go-ahead run on Jose Pirela’s sac fly. An error by Reese Havens, the fourth of the game for Binghamton, opened the flood gates. The Thunder tacked on four more runs against Turgeon to take a 10-5 advantage.

The B-Mets rallied for a run off Halsey in the eighth and two more off Pat Venditte in the ninth, but the comeback fell two runs short.

Tobi Stoner started for Binghamton and matched a season-high with six innings on the hill. The right hander allowed three runs on four hits and racked up a season-high six strike outs. He was eligible for the win before Trenton tied things in the seventh.

Halsey, who blew his first save of the year, earned his first victory with two innings of relief. Turgeon suffered his fourth blown save and third loss.

The B-Mets (23-44) enjoy a day off tomorrow before starting a three-game series against the Akron Aeros on Tuesday night. RHP Brandon Moore (5-5, 4.04) will be opposed by RHP Joe Gardner (4-5, 3.81). The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 6:50pm on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
