8/2/11

2012 Draft: - Tim Cooney, Trey Williams, Kevin Gausman, Mark Appel, Curt Britt

Tim Cooney:

7-19-11: - mlbbonusbaby.  - Tim Cooney, Wake Forest, 6’3 195, finess guy with good control and will touch 90 on occ, most fb upper 80’s, change of speeds is key to his success from 3/4 slot. Will be 8-12 round type unless velo picks up a tick or two.

Trey Williams:

7-21-11: - http://www.mockdraftmania.com/  - 6. Oakland Athletics Trey Williams 3B Valencia High School California Oakland has a top 5 team ERA. Now the A’s just need to get some bats in their farm system. Oakland needs a long term shortstop and Trey Williams may be the future for the Oakland Athletics at 3rd base.

Kevin Gausman:

7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments  - Kevin Gausmann, LSU, 6’5 1/2 210, tall righty with potential to excel in pro ball, needs work with consistency in release points, but you can not teach his 95 mph fb, also hard cb that shows chance to be abv ave if he can harness the command needed at the next level. Top 10 talk already!

Mark Appel:

7-31-11: - http://orioles-nation.com/2011/07/28/scouting-the-cape-cod-league-mark-appel  - Appel’s fastball sits easily in the 94-95 mph range and he dialed it up to 97 mph on his debut night. As with most of his arsenal, he commands this pitch rather well, keeping the ball down in the zone constantly. The fastball was fouled off even in hitters counts when they knew it was coming. Guys had trouble getting square contact and even when hit hard, they were ground balls that would have been eaten up in the professional ranks. I have seen him dial it up to 98 mph in other encounters and others have seen him hit 99 mph. With additional lower half strength and weight gain, he may sit in the 96 mph range with the four-seam fastball.

Curt Britt:

7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comment  - Curt Britt, Laurinburg HS, NC, 6’1 200, better hitter than pitcher in my opinion, full effort with 91 fb and hard breaking ball he gets over for strikes, deception is fair, long term project who I feel should go to college, but he’s got a solid bat that could be put to use at 1b, doesn’t run well however, 7.8, 60.
