(My next pick here was going to be Nick Evans, but the Mets sent him outright to AAA and he is now a free agent. I think he’ll be back; however, he’s technically off the team right now so he can’t be on this 25-man squad.)
There’s more than one reason to have this guy on your squad.
1. He’s now a true outfielder and can play all three positions.
2. He’s a local boy, from Whitestone.
3. He started as a first baseman, like everyone else on this team.
4. His first Mets uniform was for Hyannis in the Cape Cod League.
5. His favorite player is John Olerud.
Also, Baxter is a very good defensive outfielder. The Mets could use one of them.
