Fernando Martinez went 3-5, HR, 2RBI for AAA-Oklahoma City
- .315, 4-HR
Travis Blackley improved to 3-0 with a 0.39ERA at AAA
The Atlanta Braves released OF Brahiam Maldonado.
Once again, the Mets prospect talent
pool has been depleted in the minors, but, in this case, that’s a good thing.
Broadcaster Howie
Rose will be inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and
Museum this Sunday at Commack, Long Island
TC’s pre-game comments before Friday
night’s game were very encouraging about the health of some of the system’s
best pitchers. Of course, all this comes at the expense of Mike Pelfrey who
will decide in the next 72 hours what everyone already knows is going to
happen.
The good news involves Chris Young, Jenrry Mejia, and Pedro Beato. All three are near the end of their DL stint and the
future looks brighter because of it.
Young should return in May, with
Mejia and Beato around June 1st. My guess:
-
Young will immediately slot in at
SP4 and what Schwinden and Gee do in
their next four outings will determine who will be the SP5
-
Mejia and Beato will both start out
in the Buffalo pen
AAA-Buffalo:
The annual exodus of prospect talent
has happened again in Buffalo and this will probably be the last straw for
Bisons ownership. The fan base has been robbed of watching future major leaguers
every year they have have been affiliated with the Mets. That affiliation runs
out at the end of this season and, IMO, I can’t see any other option here for
owner Robert Rich.
I’m trying to be subtle here… right
now, the active roster includes only three players that have a chance of
starring in the pros. None of them play every day.
FYI… there also are five players
currently on the DL and one more on restriction
CF Andres Torres continues his rehab here on Friday night… SP Jeurys Familia had control problems early giving up 4-BB in the first three innings… he left after three, and walking… wait for it… seven (5.40)... 80 pitchers and only 39 were strikes… C Lucas May hit his 3rd homer of the young season and it was long gone…

AA-Binghamton:
RP Robert
Carson was paid $8400 for the three days he didn’t pitch for the Mets…
his AA salay is around $7,000 per month.
Some asked if I thought that Greg
Peavey was left it the Binghamton game (11-R in 2.1-IP) on Thursday.
No pitching coach has a plan when
this happens. You want a starter to work through his problems, especially in
the minor leagues. Pulling a starter after one inning could really do a number
on a young man’s confidence, even someone like Greg who has his head on
extremely straight.
Five runs were given up in the first,
followed by only one more in the second. It wasn’t until the beginning of the
third that things became apparent that a change was needed. For that outing.
Greg is a strongly religious young
man who has probably put this hiccup past time. He’s a very talented player and
will prove that the next time he gets up on the bump.
There is chatter out there to promote
CF Matt den Dekker to Buffalo, but recent Bisons
acquisitions of Dustin Martin and Fred Lewis look like den Dekker will remain in AA for
a while longer.
The Mets want den Dekker to
concentrate on his pitch choices and plate discipline. He had 91-Ks in 272 AA
at bats last season, which is simply unacceptable.
So far in 2012, he has only 18-Ks in
78-AB.
My guess is he will remain where he
is for the remainder of this season
DH Rylan Sandoval hit his first AA home run… RP Robert Carson returned and threw 2.0, 0-R, 3-K, 1-BB… RP Elvin Ramirez continued his 0.00 ERA…

A+ - St.
Lucie: -
We really should stop, pause, and
think a little about 3B Wilmer Flores’ progress
this season: .322/.355/.523/.878, 3-HR,
16-RBI, only 6-K in 65-AB.
This is his highest slug% and OPS…
ever.
And, he’s currently playing at
20-years old.
The Mets may have a future need for
both a third and first baseman. You should all keep an eye on how Wilmer
plays, as well as where
Prospect OF Gilbert
Gomez started as DH… RF Cory
Vaughn (.269) hit his 3rd home run of the season in the 10th
inning to seal the victory.

Savannah:
I don’t keep up ‘The Keepers” series
anymore, but, if I did, I would drop 3B Aderlin
Rodriguez out of the ‘prospect’ portion of the rankings. This is the third season he has
played in Savannah and he has never hit higher than .221. This season:
.200/.269/.388/.657. Re pop: only 35-HRs in 943-Abs. Every SAL team continues to pitch
around Aderlin on a team that is currently hitting poorly. Take the prospect horse collar off
the kid and just let him play baseball
.
CF Travis
Tajieron hit his 4th homer… Aderlin Rodriguez is
playing 1B… six runs and 11-hits are pretty good for this team…
This team needs bats and it doesn’t
look like the Mets are going to do anything about it. We all know how much Fred
loves the Brooklyn franchise, who are close to getting their season started.
Bats like OF Brandon Nimmo and SS Phillip Evans should be in Savannah, replacing a
couple of Sand Gnats that should ride the roller coaster.
this is not his 3rd season in savannah, its his 2nd.
ReplyDeleteA-Rod had 30-at bats in 2010 with Savannah, thus, this is his third season with Savannah
