RHP Collin McHugh (3-1, 1.59) vs. RHP James Avery (2-1, 2.87 )


LAST GAME: Rylan Sandoval ripped a solo home run and the B-Mets took advantage of six walks to defeat the Erie SeaWolves in comeback fashion 3-1 last night at Jerry Uht Park. Mark Cohoon allowed just one run on four hits over six innings to earn his second straight win. Erie grabbed the lead with a run on Niuman Romero’s RBI single in the third. Sandoval tied the game by blasting his first homer of the season in the fifth against Erie starter Kelvin De La Cruz. De La Cruz and Jared Gayhart issued four straight walks to hand Binghamton the go-ahead run in the seventh. Juan Centeno supplied a sac fly to add on to the lead in the eighth. Robert Carson tossed two scoreless innings and Elvin Ramirez threw a perfect ninth to earn his first career save.




STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Collin McHugh (3-1, 1.59) makes his fifth start of the season and first against the Sea-Wolves. The Atlanta, GA native allowed one unearned run on two hits over six innings in a win against the Portland Sea Dogs in his most recent start on April 22. The righty has won three straight starts after dropping his 2012 debut on Opening Day. McHugh, an 18th round draft pick by the Mets in 2008, made 16 starts with Binghamton last year, going 8-2 with a 2.89 ERA. He was named the team’s Pitcher of the Year following the season.


RHP James Avery (2-1, 2.87) makes his fourth start of the sea-son and second against the B-Mets. The Saskatchewan native allowed one run on five hits over five innings in a win over the Bowie Baysox in his most recent start on April 21. Avery tossed five shutout innings against the B-Mets in his 2012 debut on April 10. The right-hander from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan was signed by the Detroit Tigers as a minor league free agent in January 2012. He was selected in the 5th round of the 2005 draft by the Cincinnati Reds out of Niagara University. He spent seven years in the Reds system, including four at the Double-A level before being cut loose by the club in the offseason. Last season, he went 6-12 with a 4.70 in 26 starts with the Carolina Mudcats (AA), then the Double-A affiliate of the Reds playing in the Southern League.


SAVE AND A BEAUTY: B-Mets reliever Elvin Ramirez worked a perfect ninth inning last night to earn his first career save. The righty spent his first five years in the Mets’ system as a starting pitcher. He was converted to the bullpen in 2010 before miss-ing all of 2011 with a right shoulder injury. Ramirez is the first B-Met other than Josh Edgin to collect a save in 2012.


MAKING THEM COUNT: B-Mets infielder Rylan Sandoval has collected six hits in six games as B-Met. Four of his hits have been run-scoring extra-base hits. Sandoval blast a solo home run last night. He has also doubled once and ripped two triples. In just six games, he ranks sixth on the team in RBI.
