Mud Hens 3, Herd 2

In the bottom of the 9th Saturday, Brent Dlugach came to the plate with the chance to be the hero. The game was tied at 2, and Dlugach could end the game with one swing of the bat.

With a 1-1 count, Dlugach did just that. Batting against Bisons closer Fernando Cabrera, the Toledo shortstop took the swing and blasted the ball out of the park. Game, set, match.

With Dlugach's heroics, the Mud Hens walked off with a 3-2 win over the Bisons. Toledo has now won the first two of a four-game set with Buffalo, and the Bisons have now lost three straight.

Playing in front of a home crowd of 11,000, Toledo got off to a quick start with two runs in the first. With the bases loaded and two outs, Ben Guez ripped an RBI single that scored two.

After Guez's efforts, the Bisons pitching staff was able to hold the Toledo offense in check until Dlugach came to the plate in the 9th.

Despite the early deficit, the Herd battled back to make things interesting in the later innings. In the top of the 6th, Matt Tuiasosopo ripped an RBI double that scored Valentino Pascucci, cutting the Toledo lead to 2-1.

Then an inning later, the Bisons were at it again. Oswaldo Navarro led off the inning with a single, and a Michael Fisher single sent Navarro to 3rd. Then a Toledo fielding error allowed Corey Wimberly to reach first and Navarro to score, tying the game at two.

But the Bisons failed to add any additional runs in the 7th, despite a Fred Lewis walk that loaded the bases with nobody out. Three consecutive Bisons struck out to end the inning, and the game remained tied.

Garrett Olson got the start for the Herd, and he pitched 5 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Chuck James and Pedro Beato combined to pitch three scoreless innings in relief, prior to Cabrera.

Bisons Notes: The Bisons and Mud Hens each had 7 hits on the evening...The Bisons committed no errors on the night, while Toledo had two...The Herd went 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position...Fred Lewis had a multi-hit effort for Buffalo, going 2-for-4 on the evening.
