Red Sox Release Mark Prior

MLB - Mets:

The shifting of the Mets to a 6-man rotation should allow Matt Harvey to finish the season on the mound. His limit is 165-170, which leaves him 30-35 shy of that mark.

LHP Tim Byrdak (torn anterior capsule in left shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 3. He will undergo season-ending surgery.
RHP Dillon Gee (right shoulder surgery) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 8, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on Aug. 7. He underwent a surgical procedure July 10 to dissolve a blood clot in his shoulder, then had another operation July 13 to replace a piece of a damaged artery. He hopes to return in September.
RHP Mike Pelfrey (swollen right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 22, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 4. He underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery May 1. He began playing catch this week.

AAA – Buffalo:

RHP Jenrry Mejia  takes the hill for his seventh start of the season. The righty is coming off a win against Pawtucket, August 12, where he tossed 5.0 innings while allowing six hits and two unearned runs. In his two August starts, he has not surrendered an earned run in 9.1 innings of work. Overall, Mejia is 2-2 with a 2.90ERA in 22 appearances this season.

AA-Binghamton:

LHP Mark Cohoon (7-8, 3.44) makes his 20th start of the season and second against the Flying Squirrels. The southpaw comes off his best performance of the season, a nine-inning complete game shutout of the Harrisburg Senators on August 10. He allowed just two hits and struck out 10, one shy of his career-high. Cohoon’s effort was the 18th two-hitter in Binghamton Mets franchise history. Cohoon defeated Richmond on July 6, allowing just one run on five hits over seven innings.

RHP Craig Westcott (10-9, 3.90) takes the hill for his 25th start of the year and second against the B-Mets. Westcott lost his last game to the Bowie Baysox on August 11. The Louisiana native allowed five runs on nine hits over five innings. The righty has lost three of his last four games. He beat Binghamton on July 4, surrendering three runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings. Selected in the 30th round of the 2009 draft out of Belhaven College, Westcott is in his fourth year with the San Francisco Giants organization and second go-around with Richmond. He made 13 starts with the Flying Squirrels in 2010, going 3-3 with a 5.13 ERA.
