Mack Ade – Morning Report – 3-18-13

Good news: Justin Turner’s x-rays were negative so it looks like he will make it back well before opening day. Whew. The Mets didn’t need another infielder out right now.

  1. Kirk Nieuwenhuis said he will take at-bats in a minor league game either tmrw or Wednesday

If you go to the Mets official site, they list five players having played SS this spring, Omar Quintanilla (.231), Wilfredo Tovar (.231), Wilmer Flores (.143), Brandon Hicks (.133), and Ruben Tejada (.111). They also list Brian Bixler (.308) as 2Bman. Bixler has played well, but my guess is Quintanilla will go north as the backup SS on the depth chart. For now, Justin Turner is the 2Bman with Tejada second on the depth chart there. Third base is still undetermined.

Sunday game notes:

-Two players still undetermined, Zach Lutz and Matt den Dekker, played today.

-2B Jordany Valdespin wasted no time in making a case to go north next month. He homers in the first inning, raising his spring BA to .361.

1B Ike Davis doubled in the same innings. Things like this don’t happen very often this spring.

SP Jon Niese still showing some control problems… walk and wild pitch in the second inning. I probably am being a little critical here about a pitcher with a 0.00 ERA… nice outing

It seems that the more Valdespin heats up, the colder Collin Cowgill is becoming.

Can’t win games if you can count team hits on one hand

Sorry for the lack of report today… had to go to work overnight and none of the other writers sent anything in over the past couple of days…

There isn't much good to say about this team right now and the last thing I can do is motivate the writers to say the same old stuff.

The blog will become much more active once the regular season starts We'll have our local reporters at all the full season teams and later on in Brooklyn.

Check in every morning at 8am and come back around noon and 4pm to see what else posted up.

Thanks for your patience and my apologies.
