Wilmer's 2012 season put him back on the map as a legitimate prospect after his 2011 season knocked him out of the Baseball America Top 100 after appearing on it from 2009-2011. The power game that scouts had hoped for finally came to fruition as he hit 10 HRs in Port St. Lucie in 64 games and another 8 in 66 games for Binghamton without sacrificing hit batting average. While in Binghamton he was moved all over the infield to get him exposure at each position since he is blocked at his natural position by David Wright. He seems to have settled in nicely at 2B which may increase his value since the second baseman with advanced hit tools are preferred within the MLB now. If he can maintain his .280 ISO rate in AAA Las Vegas while playing average defense his stock will exponentially increase and place him in discussions to replace Murphy in 2014 rather than being the center piece in a trade for an franchise OF.
Wow....I almost forgot. He'll play the 2013 as a 21 year old in AAA and at only 190lbs he still has room to add more power. He could be a middle of the order batting threat.
Anticipated Assignment: (AAA) Las Vegas starting 2B.
Lets hope Wilmer becomes what we've all hoped for over the last 5 years.
