LAST GAME: Rafael Montero fired six scoreless innings to lead the B-Mets to a 3-0 victory over New Hampshire Saturday afternoon. The bullpen provided three blank innings in relief for Binghamton’s first shutout victory of 2013. The B-Mets had their chances early against Marcus Walden, but rolled into three inning-ending double plays and could not score. After a Wilfredo Tovar double in the fifth, Binghamton got on the board with and RBI single by Darrell Ceciliani. That was the only run support Montero needed. He earned the win, after allowing no runs on four hits and striking out six. He allowed just one runner to reach second and prevented any Fisher Cat from reaching third. Cory Vaughn added to the advantage with a two-run home run in the eighth, and Jeff Walters slammed the door for his fifth save of the season.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Logan Verrett makes his fourth start of the season for the B-Mets. He won in his last start, a 7-3 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs. In the game, he allowed two runs in 6.2 innings. This will be his second start of the season against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He got a no-decision in that gave, after he gave up one run on seven hits over seven innings on the mound. In his three starts, he has lasted at least 6.0 innings in each of them. He has also given up a home run in all three starts. Verrett was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2011 draft out of Baylor University. He was ranked the #26 prospect in the Mets organization by Baseball America  prior to 2013.
NEW HAMPSHIRE STARTING PITCHER: RHP Deck McGuire makes his fourth start of the 2013 season. He is fresh off of no-decision in his last appearance. In six innings against New Britain, McGuire gave up two runs on six hits. This will also be his second start of the season against the B-Mets. In the game, he earned the win after throwing seven innings of one run, two hit baseball. Opponents are hitting .212 against the right-hander. His one loss of the season came against Reading on 4/6, where he gave up four runs in 4.2 innings. He was drafted in the 11th round of the 2010 draft by Toronto out of Georgia Tech.

SHUT OUT: Yesterday’s 3-0 victory over New Hampshire was the first Binghamton shutout victory of 2013. On 4/17 vs Portland, the B-Mets were shut out 1-0. In 2012, the B-Mets shut out their opponents seven times, including a 1-0 win over New Hampshire on 8/21.

ANOTHER HR FOR VAUGHN: Cory Vaughn’s two-run blast yesterday was his second home run in as many days. He has now hit the last three Binghamton round-trippers, including the only two-run, and three-run home run of the year.

SEASON LOW IN STRIKEOUTS: In yesterday’s 3-0 win, the B-Mets only struck out twice as a team. Prior to then, their 2013 season-low was five on 4/18 @ NH. Through 16 games, Binghamton averages over eight strikeouts per contest.

WALTERS DOES IT AGAIN: B-Met closer Jeff Walters earned his fifth save in as many chances yesterday, and leads the league in that category. In each of the last four B-Met victories, Jeff has come into the game and earned the save.  
CECILIANI FINDS HIS BAT: After going hitless in six straight games, Darrell Ceciliani is now on a season-high four-game hitting streak. He went a perfect 2-for-2 yesterday with an RBI single and two walks.

ALTERNATING RESULTS: Since losing two consecutive games from 4/9 - 4/11, the B-Mets have alternated wins and losses. Binghamton is 5-5 during that stretch, including yesterday’s 3-0 win against the Fisher Cats.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: Binghamton opens up a three-game road series against Portland. RHP Jacob DeGrom takes to the mound against RHPBrandon Workman. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM.
