LAST GAME: The B-Mets packed all their offense into the first two innings and held on to defeat the Portland Sea Dogs, 8-6, on Wednesday night. For the second straight night, they put up a three-spot in the first inning. Allan Dykstra launched his first 2013 home run over the right field wall to put Binghamton up 3-0. In the second, The first five B-Mets reached base in the second, and Darrell Ceciliani cleared them all with a three-run double. After Josh Rodriguez and Cory Vaughn both his RBI doubles, Binghamton had an 8-0 lead in the second inning. Portland cut into the lead with three runs in the third against B-Met starter Erik Goeddel. Goeddel labored through four innings in the no-decision. He exited after allowing three runs on six hits, while walking two and fanning three. Shawn Teufel took over next, and allowed three runs on three hits over 1.2 innings of work. With an 8-6 lead, John Church escaped a jam in the sixth, and continued on to throw a scoreless seventh. Jeff Walters then recorded his second six-out save of the year with scoreless eighth and ninth innings.
 
BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Rafael Montero makes his fifth start of the season for the B-Mets. He is 3-0 with a team-best 1.59 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched. He has won each of his last two starts, both coming against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. On the season, he has recorded 27 strikeouts and only walked one. Opponents are hitting .183 against the righty. On Opening Day, Montero beat Akron 2-1. He threw 5.2 innings, gave up one run on two hits, and struck out eight in the victory. He is ranked the #5 prospect in the Met organization by Baseball America prior to the 2013 season. He signed with the Mets as a non-drafted free agent in January 2011.

AKRON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Danny Salazar makes his fifth start of the season. The Opening Day starter is 0-3 with a 4.58 ERA in 17.2 innings. In his last outing, he got a no-decision against Bowie after throwing five scoreless frames. He gave up two hits and struck out a season-high nine. He lost to Binghamton on Opening Day, giving up one run on two hits in five innings. Salazar was signed by the Indians as a non-drafted free agent in 2006.

WINNING ROADTRIP: After going 3-1 against New Hampshire and 1-2 against Portland, the B-Mets finished with a 4-3 record on their last roadtrip. On the year, Binghamton is 8-5 away from NYSEG Stadium.

OFF DAY: On Thursday, the B-Mets had their first off day of the 2013 season. Including a two-day All-Star Break, the B-Mets have 10 off days this season.

LEAGUE LEADERS: Wednesday night, B-Met closer Jeff Walters notched his league-leading sixth save of the season. He is 6-for-6 in save chances. Alonzo Harris leads the league with nine stolen bases. He is 9-for-11 in stolen base attempts. John Church leads the league with 10 games pitched. The B-Mets lead the league with a 3.82 ERA and also have 30 stolen bases.

HARRIS ON ANOTHER STREAK: Alonzo Harris is currently on a B-Met season-high eight-game hitting streak. He has hit safely in 16 of his 19 starts, and has hit leadoff in each of those 19 games. He began 2013 on a six-game hitting streak, and is batting .286 so far this year.

WHEN LEADING LATE: This season, the B-Mets are a perfect 11-0 when leading after seven innings, and also 11-0 when leading after eight innings. The combination of Jack Leathersich and Jeff Walters have given up one run in 20.1 innings on the mound.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their three-game series against the Akron Aeros Saturday afternoon. RHP Logan Verrett takes the hill for Binghamton against LHP Matt Packer for Akron. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM on 1290 WNBF.
