Mack Ade – Morning Report – 5-20-13

 

I’m happy to report that Gerrit den Decker, father of Matt den Dekker, has joined Mack’s Mets as a staff writer. He will be working out of our Savannah office and will spend the rest of the season interviewing players on that team. Hi Mack, I going away this week for some R n R but wanted to post something before I left. Once again and not to beat a dead horse but what in the world are they thinking with Strike Davis. We have Satin hitting over .300 and playing 1st base in Vegas and oh by the way he hits right-handed! I know DW and Strike are best buds but PLEASE let’s do something and a platoon would be a good start. It's obvious they see no future with Josh and we've talked about that but what's the harm in showcasing him (along with just about everyone else) for a July trade?

                Satin is a 6^th year man and would rather put pins in his eyes than come back to a team that completely ignored the fact that he consistently hit .300 throughout his minor league career.

                There is no immediate first base solution for Davis’ hitting other than letting him try to wrok his way out of it. For some reason, the Mets don’t consider either Eric Campbell or Alan Dykstra prospects either. Lastly, they seem to have no desire to move Lucas Duda back to his natural position.; therefore, look for people like Justin Turner to fill in occasionally while Davis tries to get his act together and finish the season above the Mendoza line.

 

On a different subject wouldn't it be funny if Ankiel actually played well enough to be worth something at the deadline......

Yeah I know, I'm dreaming but that last start for Marcum was encouraging because he'd probably bring back the most in a deal.

                Marcum can have a trade value if he strings 4-5 good outings together. And I mean good (4.00), not even great. Starting pitching is tough to find and SP5’s average well over a 4.75 ERA. He’s not going to get the Mets a George Springer-like prospect, but there’s an outfielder or a young pitcher on some roster that can be traded for here.

 

As far as the Scannell post on a trade for Alex Gordon I would think the Mets would jump on it in a heart beat but to me we would have to add say Montero AND Syndergaard to have a shot but an interesting thought. I still agree with you that the Dodgers are the best fit for a trade for OF prospects because they are truly blocked at the major league level.

                Michael bowls up and smokes some really good shit when he comes up with these trades. You know what the best fit is? The team that calls back. And, it’s too early in the process for most of these teams to decide which direction they are going. They also are trying to heal their walking wounded who’s list tends to be just as long as ours.

Also have you heard anything more on ZW and Nimmo because after all we are the Met's and I'm always leery of quick recovery injury reports. Have a great week, Gary Seagren

                There is nothing wrong with Wheeler structurally.  He will be ready to move come June 15^th.

                Nimmo could play today if it was the playoffs. The Mets just don’t like to rush these things.
