Mack Ade – Morning Report – 5-6-13

Hello again Mack.

I woke up this morning and had to turn on SNY to make sure I wasn't dreaming about what happened last night.  We won in Atlanta against "the best bullpen in the history of the world"  after being down twice late and getting out of a brave on 3rd with 1 out in the 9th and if that wasn't enough came back with 2 out in the 10th to score twice..WOW!!!!!

Is it possible the "Chipper" curse has been lifted...stay tuned.

Hey I know I was pissed after those 2 losses to the fish and you called me on it when you answered my last post but I had to vent somewhere. Look, can you ever remember hearing a team talk soooo much about "NEXT YEAR" when you’re not even out of spring training THIS year? They have spent the last year conditioning us to prepare for another crappy season because 2014 will be the year! Bourne and J Up were available THIS off season....there's not much of anything free agent wise next off season so the time to strike has pasted. I would have given up our pick this year for Bourne to secure both CF and leadoff for the next four years. I wouldn't have given up ZW for J Up but would a package starting with Niese and Str-ike Davis gotten it done? Last question for you is about the scouting dept. I was wondering about the Braves and their ability to find just the right players after having watched them beat us up for the last 20 years and have to believe it's a lot more than just luck they've been as good as they have been.

Does anyone in the FO believe in plagiarism or are the ego's so big they have to re-invent the wheel.

That's all for now. Thanks, Gary Seagren

                Hey Gary…

You take these rare come from behind wins and store them in the back of your cranium. It still will be a long season, but there will be some great moments, mostly caused by home runs, not great pitching.

The only chance the Mets have is if Ike Davis hits like John Buck, Davis Wright, and Lucas Duda. You need a 3-4-5-6 to get things done.

By my estimate, the Mets payroll will return to at least $100mil next year. Take off the old salaries and that leaves $50mil a year to get things done. That’s a minimum of three great players, two in the outfield and maybe a new first baseman… or stack the deck and go get another SP2-3. Put up Harvey, Wheeler, Niese, Montero, new guy until Syndergaard arrives in 2015.

Personally, I’d like to see the return of Carlos Beltran for a 1-yr contract with a team option. He still has a healthy bat.

The important thing to remember is 2014 is the last year on Sandy Alderson’s contract. He has to do something this off-season. And yes, regardless of what he says now, they will move Buck before the season is over. They have to get a return for him. Me? I would sign him for two more years and move d’Arnaud, but that’s just me.

Interesting view on keeping Buck and trading Travis (I'll never remember how to spell his last name) and was wondering besides Stanton who else would be on your radar and lets please include str-ike Davis because the guy drives me nuts.

This is becoming the Gary and Mack show.

D’Arnaud is still an unproven commodity. Buck isn’t. I have no problem paying him Frank Francisco money.

With the plethora of catchers in the system he could hold the fort till one is ready...are you listening Kevin Plawecki. Also I'm not sure if Stanton would be my guy because I see us giving up a bundle for him and then seeing him become more familiar with the DL than Citi-field. If you use say Travis, Davis, Spin and some minor league pitchers would you go for 1 solid major league OFer or a few near ready prospects?

The Mets need someone like Justin Upton. If not, they need someone like Michael Bourn (sic).

On your new draft post you'd still go for Wilson even if say Gray is still on the board?

No, Gray is an elite pitcher, as is Manaea and Appel. You take one of them if they were there, which they won’t be.

Now some questions about the following minor leaguers...Gsellman, Jeff Walters and your latest updates on Plawecki's progress.

Gsellman is a nice find but let’s let him go around the league a few times.

Walters is an MLB relieve in the making ETA 2014.

Plawecki leads the league in every major offensive category He needs to move on, but it’s too early to tell yet. I’m more intrigued with the resurgence of Blake Forsythe.

And finally did you catch Rosenthal's post on our Metsies not contending until 2015 at the earliest. These guy's give me a laugh. Look I know the Nats and Braves are good and young and they will give us all we can handle but come on like he really has a clue what will happen tomorrow no less 2 years from now. If Friday's amazing win from the almighty Bravo's proves anything it's that you NEVER know .....so Ken Rosenthal...GET OVER YOUR SELF and write what you really know not what your guessing.

No, I don’t read most of these guys.
