6/3/13

Draft 13 – Jacob Heyward, Nick Ciuffo, Dustin Driver, Spencer Turnbull, Brian Ragira

Jacob Heyward, OF, Eagle’s Landing Academy (GA) - The brother of Atlanta Braves outfielder Jason Heyward, Jacob is a 6’-2” right-hander with a lot of upside. He has been clocked at 6.83 in the 60 and his arm at 86 mph from the outfield. He shows a good approach at the plate and his raw power is still developing. Over his last 14 games, he is hitting .421 with six doubles, four home runs, 22 RBI and has drawn seven walks for a .577 OBP/.947 SLG. He has 11 stolen bases on the season and has been hit by a pitch a whopping 10 times over 26 games. Committed to Miami. LINK

Nick Ciuffo, C, Lexington HS (SC) -The 6’-1” left-handed hitter may be the best defensive catcher in the 2013 MLB draft and he has a chance to go in the top 20 picks as he has been showing great offensive potential this season. He had a 25-game hitting streak earlier in the year and, over 33 games, is hitting .453/.541/.705 with seven doubles, five home runs, 33 RBI and has drawn 21 walks to just six strikeouts. He also fits the mold as a clubhouse leader and is one of the more competitive players you will see. LINK

Dustin Driver, P, UCLA 50% - Driver doesn't have the front of the rotation stuff to be drafted in the top half of the first round but he could prove that he is a solid mid rotation starter and make that happen after three years at UCLA. LINK

Kendall Rogers@KendallRogersPG - Alabama RHP Spencer Turnbull left some balls up early, he's 91-94, tops out at 95. Also a 73-74 CB, avg dpth, 80-81 CH, 82-83 SL

Brian Ragira could have gone pro back in 2010, as he was drafted in the 30th round by the Texas Rangers. Obviously, he chose not to sign. That decision should pay off this year, as Ragira's career at Stanford—while not astounding—has served to establish him as a solid first base prospect with a solid bat. He hit .329 in 2011 and 2012, and is once again in that neck of the woods this year at .327. LINK
