Las Vegas 6 - Salt Lake 5
Las Vegas rallied to score five runs in the seventh inning and then held on, as the 51s edged the Salt Lake Bees 6-5 on Monday night.
The Bees grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Kole Calhoun and a run scoring ground out by Efren Navarro, before Las Vegas cut the lead in half with a run in the sixth. In the seventh, Jamie Hoffman singled off of Mike Ekstrom (1-2), was sacrificed to second and advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring the tying run on a ground out. With two outs, Brandon Hicks walked, stole second and took third on a wild pitch. Buddy Boshers came out of the bullpen and walked Mike Baxter before Wilmer Flores drilled a two run single to put Las Vegas in front and Ike Davis capped off the scoring with a two run homer.
The Bees scored three runs in the eighth to pull to within one run at 6-5 on an RBI single by Trent Oeltjen and a two single by John Hester before Salt Lake stranded runners at second and third. The Bees got a two out single in the ninth from Navarro, but Chris Nelson struck out to end the game. Navarro led the Bees with three hits and one run batted in, while Matt Long added three hits. Calhoun chipped in with two hits and one RBI and Romine added two hits, but the Bees have now dropped two out of their first three games in Las Vegas.
