Mets Draft Target - OF - Michael Lorenzen

This would be an interesting pick by the Mets.

Lorenzen is considered one of the top college outfielders in the draft; however, he's also the closer on his team. He's routinely clocked in the 98-99 range.

TEAM USA `11: Batted .317 with a home run and 10 RBI in 14 games for Team USA under Head Coach Tim Jamieson (Missouri) • The Collegiate National Team went 11-2-1 in the summer including 4-0-1 against Japan in five consecutive games in North Carolina and then in Omaha, Neb. •Lorenzen doubled and walked in three plate appearances in Omaha's TD Ameritrade Park and was the first Titan to play in the new home of the College World Series.

The Rays 7th round selection in 2012, Lorenzen is poised to be off the board much earlier in 2013. The Cal State Fullerton outfielder boasts some very impressive tools and the ability to handle the bat. He was a Freshman All-American in 2011, hitting .342 with 19 stolen bases to go along with excellent reports on defense. He regressed in 2012, however, hitting .297/.353/.435 with a 42/7 K:BB ratio. The strikeouts are a concern, but the past results and excellent tools are still very intriguing. He's Fullerton's closer and for good reason as his arm has been clocked as high as 99 mph from the outfield and could be plus-plus at the next level. His 60 times comfortably sit in the 6.6 range and Lorenzen is just about as athletic as they come. His smooth swing generates some good gap power thanks to very quick hands that give above-average bat speed. If he regains his form with the bat, which he has the tools to do, the combination of solid hitting and pure tools will carry him a long way. Another multiple-occasion draftee, Michael Lorenzen will no doubt go higher than his previous drafting back in 2010, when the Rays selected him out of Fullerton High School in the seventh-round. Lorenzen didn’t do much negotiating and decided to stay close to home, signing with Cal State-Fullerton. Lorenzen wowed just about everyone with his freshman campaign. He led the squad with a .342 average, and produced an impressive .373 in conference play. He combined for 13 extra-base hits, struck out just 24 times (a fantastic number for a first-year player) and swiped 19 bases. In the field, Lorenzen drew rave reviews for his range and throwing ability. He gunned down five baserunners attempting to advance in just 49 games and committed just two errors all year. http://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/2012/06/08/michael-lorenzen-of-cal-state-fullerton/

Mack - I love this pick at #48 and I'd send him immediately to St. Lucie. Then, I'd flip a coin as to what position I' play him :)
